Youa Kao Chang

Youa Kao Chang, 78, of Rochester, MN, passed away on July 3, 2023, surrounded by loved ones.

Youa was born on May 19, 1945 to Txawj Hwm Tsab and Ma Lauj in the village of Ban Loob Kha, Laos, which is in the county of Xi Geon and the province of Luang Prabang. He went on to marry Teng Vang before enlisting as a United States CIA soldier in the Vietnam War. Afterwards, he relocated his family to Thailand and eventually immigrated to the US in 1988. In total, Youa and Teng had eight children: Mai Yia, Lee, Hue, Vang, Mai Yer, Bee, Nou, and Sandy. Youa was a wonderful and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He taught his children to pursue their education and supported them all throughout the many accomplishments and difficulties of their lives.

Youa Kao Chang was predeceased by parents, Txawj Hwm Tsab and Ma Lauj, and son, Bee Chang. He is survived by his wife, remaining 7 children, 28 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 5 siblings.

Service will be held on July 16, 2023 in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home from 9:00 AM – 8:00 PM. The burial will be held on July 17, 2023 at Oakwood Cemeteries (38 7th Ave NE) at 10:00 AM.
