William Witzig, a well-known retired Rochester realtor passed away on December 23, 2019 surrounded by his family. Bill is preceded in death by his parents Edgar and Clara, brothers Edward and John. Bill is survived by his wife of 59 years Lurene, daughters Rita (Joe) and Betsy (Jim); grandchildren Sarah, Hannah, Madalyn, Tyler and Cora and great grandsons Graham and Louie.
Bill was born on January 29, 1929 to Edgar and Clara Witzig in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Bill graduated from the University of Eau Claire in 1953. He served in the Wisconsin National Guard for eight years. Bill taught and coached high school in Thorpe, Wisconsin and later in Minneapolis at De LaSalle High School. Bill moved to Rochester in 1957 and worked in sales for 3M Company achieving 3M’s highest sales honor, the “Crest Club”. He retired his career as a certified residential specialist with Coldwell Banker realty after 25 years. Bill volunteered with SCORE for 15 years.
Bill loved being with his wife, Lurene and their family. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren, always asking for updates on the kids endeavors. When we visited, He frequently asked “When are you going to visit again?” as we were walking out the door. Other than family, Bill’s favorite pastime was being on the golf course. Prior to the last few years, he would golf any chance he had.
A special thanks to the staff at Seasons Hospice and his nurse practitioner, Kayla from the Mayo Clinic. The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. held in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home in Rochester on Friday, January 3, 2020. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
Memorials preferred to Seasons Hospice or charity of choice.

🙏 So Sorry about your Dad Rita. Don’t know if you remember me from Mayo High but I do remember you. So hard loosing a Loved one, especially a Parent. Know that I’m thinking and Praying for you and your Family 🙏 May He Rest In Peace ❤️
Dear Lurene - So sorry for you and your family. We'll miss seeing Bill walk around the circle. Take care.
I am Lois Sipple from Menomonie, WI. and brought a friend to Mayo Clinic on Sunday. I picked up the paper on Monday and saw Bill's obituary. My husband, Jerry Sipple, played semi-pro baseball with Bill in Colfax, WI. in the early '50's. Their "claim to fame" was that they played against Hank Aaron when he was with the Eau Claire Bears...also against Bud Grant who pitched for the Osceola, Wi team. Jerry passed away ten years ago, but had many wonderful memories of the Colfax Bears. My love and prayers and sympathy go out to Bill's family. He was a very nice young man when I knew him.
So very sorry to hear of your loss of your father. I'll keep y'all in my Prayers...
Rita, so sorry to learn of your father’s passing. Sending prayers to you and your family.
I am so sorry for this tremendous loss to your family. I know how important her dad was to Betsy, she was there with him every chance she had. Sending love and blessings to all.
I am sorry to hear about you loss! I have such peaceful and great full thoughts for your family. When I cleaned for Lurene and Bill I always felt welcomed and felt that I was one of the family!! Bless you and your family and know people are with you in spirit at this time of such a loss of a wonderful man. Sincerely, Flossie Lund
Rita and Family,
Very sorry to hear of your father's passing.
Blessings to all of you during this difficult time.
BILL and I started the same summer at Buy-Rite Realty. He was a good friend and fellow Realtor during my real estate career.
Always so helpful and positive—and so honest and grounded in principle... Honestly , a few days before Christmas I thought of him and wondered how he was and if he was well—had not seen him for a number of years.
God be with him and the family. We really loved him....
My sympathies to the Witzig family. I know Betsy’s dad held such a special place in her heart, how he could make her laugh so much and what a devoted father/daughter relationship they had. Keeping you all in my prayers.
