William “Buck” Toomey

William “Buck” Toomey, 88, died peacefully Tuesday, April 12, 2011 in Rochester with his family at his side.  He was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease in 1995 and lived at Sunrise Cottages since 2003.

Buck was born March 21, 1923 in Rochester, Minnesota.  He graduated from Rochester High School in 1941 and worked many years as a Conductor/Brakeman for the Chicago Great Western/North Western Railroad.  He married Helen Meta Schroeder in Riceville, Iowa on July 4, 1948.  His wife was a longtime secretary at Redeemer Lutheran Church and passed away in May, 1994.

Buck enjoyed camping and traveling south for the winter after he retired in 1975.  He also enjoyed listening to music, dancing and playing cards.

Survivors include his two sons, Roger (Barb Hall) Toomey and Rod (Barb) Toomey of Rochester, MN; four grandchildren, Scott Toomey of Orlando, FL, Kristy (Chad) Sutton of Rochester, Lisa (John) Kipp of Rochester and Jennifer (Juan) Wilson of St. Paul, MN.  He also has six great-grandchildren: Owen and Erin Sutton; Jack, William and Charles Kipp; and Jayda Wilson.

Visitation will be Friday, April 15 from 5-8 pm in the Riverpark Chapel at Macken Funeral Home and 1 hour prior to the funeral service at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Rochester.  The funeral will be Saturday at 1:00 pm at Redeemer Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dr. James W. Heining officiating.  Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens.  Memorials are suggested to Redeemer Lutheran Church.    On-line condolences are welcome at www.mackenfuneralhome.com.
