Willadeen (Willie) Knipschield

A memorial/social gathering for Willadeen (Willie) Knipschield will be held from 3:00pm to 6:00pm Wednesday, July 24, 2013 in the River Park Chapel, Macken Funeral  Home.  Willie requested to be cremated and to have a small graveside service for the immediate family only.  She died Saturday, July 20, 2013 after suffering from a long illness.

Willie (Gleesing) Knipschield was born in Pinewood, Minnesota on September 20, 1924.  Her family eventually moved to Madison, Wisconsin where she met and later married Wayne Knipschield on June 26, 1948.  They moved to Rochester, Minnesota shortly thereafter, where her husband had accepted a teaching and coaching position at Lourdes High School.

She and Wayne became the parents of Terry Knipschield and Bonnie (Knipschield) Smith.

Willie excelled in sports since her high school days, and during WWII, was offered a professional contract for a fast pitch softball team.  She loved golfing, volleyball and square dancing, but excelled at bowling and was inducted into the Rochester Bowling hall of fame in the year 2000.  She also worked part time for a while as a receptionist at Madonna Towers, and linotype operator for a local print shop.

Willie is survived by her husband Wayne; her children Terry (Mary) Knipschield and Bonnie (Larry) Smith; three grandchildren, Scott (Jennie) Biers; Matthew Knipschield, and Sarah Knipschield; three great grandchildren; Amaya, Alex and Amelia Biers; and a nephew, Robert Strander of Arizona.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Ted and Esther Gleesing and a sister Loretta (Gleesing) Strander.

Dear Family of Willadeen Knipschield,

I am sorry to read of your family's loss.  Through my son, Abe, I have been blessed to know Matt, and his family, through their growing years of being best of friends at school, in music endeavors, working in the same company, and as near neighbors. I pray that God will let His Holy Spirit flow through your family as you go through these next days of sadness at Willadeen's passing; and that, through your tears, you can smile in your hearts at having had Willadeen as a precious family member.

Most Sincerely,

Joy Burson

Terry, I'm so very sorry to hear of your mother's illness and death.  You and your family are in my thoughts.  Nancy Berkman

Bonnie so sorry to hear of your moms passing.Just know my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

We are unable to attend Willie's memorial service, so are taking this opportunity to express our sympathy to all of you.  We remember Willie as a fun-loving person who was very friendly to all.  We especially remember the faculty Christmas parties where she always added fun.

We will be thinking of all of you as you grieve your loss.  May God bless all of you.

With sympathy,

Warren (Zim) and Helen Zimmerman

WAYNE KNIPSCHIELD AND FAMILY:

Our prayers and thoughts to your family.  We have special memories of Willy...what a great gal.

Bill and Mary Jo Galligan

We were so sorry to hear about Willie's passing.  Barb and i have wonderful memories of spending time with Willie and Knip while growing up.  She'll be greatly missed, especially that wonderful smile.

Unfortunately, I'm unable to make it to the memorial service tomorrow due to a prior commitment that can't be cancelled. Barb and Dave Roberts are in Europe and, without one of us to bring her, I don't believe Mom will be able to attend.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Knip, Bonnie, Terry and their families.

Deb (Bjurquist) Aune
