Virginia M. Lagerlund

Virginia Marie Lagerlund, 95, passed away on February 10, 2012, in Rochester.

Virginia was born on August 10, 1916 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Daniel John Wanamaker and Mabel Maloney Wanamaker.  She and her older brother Daniel and younger brothers Robert (Bob) and Laurence (Larry) grew up and attended local schools in Chicago, IL.  She graduated from Siena High School on June 11, 1934.  She and her brothers liked college football and always cheered for Notre Dame.

Virginia married Harold Lagerlund on June 21, 1952 in Oak Park, IL.  They lived in Lombard, IL 1952-1960 and in Glen Ellyn, IL 1960-1981.   Harold was employed as an accountant, and Virginia worked as a secretary during the early years of her marriage.

In 1981 after Harold retired, he and Virginia moved to Spring Hill, FL where they lived full time until June 1988.  At that time they bought a house in Rochester MN to be near their son, but still spent the winter months in Spring Hill FL until finally selling their Florida house in March 2002.    Virginia enjoyed reading and spending time with her grandchildren.

Virginia is preceded in death by her parents and her three brothers and by her husband, Harold.   She is survived by her son, Terrence and daughter-in-law Lynn and their six children, Sarah, Benjamin, Luke, Samuel, Rachel, and Eva, who also live in Rochester.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 18, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 1315 12th Ave. NW, Rochester with the Rev. Paul Nelson officiating.  Visitation will be one hour before the Mass in the church.  Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

The family prefers memorials be made to St. Pius X Catholic Church.

Condolences

The family of Virginia M. Lagerlund has received the following condolences.

To the family of Virginia:  My most sincere condolences on the recent passing of Virginia.  She was a marvelous lady who was always so pleasant to me when I visited her.  That big smile...and she often talked about Harolds love for music and both their love of dancing.

She could tell a story from the past as if it were yesterday.  She will be sorely missed by her "second family" at Woodland.  Thank you and bless you all for bringing her into our lives.

Rest in peace Virginia.

Your friends at Woodland Memory Lane.

I want to express my sympathy to your family.  It was such a pleasure to know Viriginia.  She was a delight and a wonderful Christian woman. I have a friend at the home where Viriginia lived that had adjoining rooms.  I always got to talk with Virginia first before I saw my friend, Mary Lou.  She would take my hand and ask how I was doing.  When I brought my grandchildren to the home, we wanted to talk with them and hold their hands.  They thought she was very sweet.

I know she is with her wonderful husband, Harold.  They loved each other so very much.  She was missing him so much. I am glad they are together again in eternal glory.  God bless you all.
