Thomas “Tom” Leroy Jeanson

Thomas “Tom” Leroy Jeanson- Pine Island

Tom Jeanson, 87, of Pine Island, Minnesota, passed away Thursday, September 12, 2019 in Pine Island, surrounded by family. Tom was born April 11, 1932 in Kingsford, MI to Lowell and Naomi (DeRocher) Jeanson.

He graduated from Kingsford High School in 1950. On December 27, 1957, he married Beverly Ann Forrest in Duck Creek (Howard), Wisconsin. The couple then moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota in 1958 and lived there until 1967, when they moved to Pine Island, MN. Tom and Beverly remained in Pine Island for the rest of their lives.

Tom was drafted into the US Army in 1952 and served for 2 years in Germany where he attended the Signal School and graduated with honors. He worked for IBM for 32 years from 1955-1987, as a Field Engineer. Tom volunteered for Pine Island Area Home Services from 2004-2018, driving people to and from medical appointments after being impressed by the organization’s care during his wife’s many years of illness.

Survivors include his four sons, Mark (Karen) Jeanson of Rochester, MN, Michael (Elizabeth) Jeanson of Sioux Falls, SD, David (Kathy) Jeanson of Pine Island, MN, Daniel Jeanson of Hockley, TX, eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, his five brothers, Lowell, Bob, Paul, Donald and Richard, as well as a sister, Dorothy who passed away at six weeks old.

Tom enjoyed being a Boy Scout leader and Explorer Advisor, machining, welding and carving, water skiing, snow skiing and figure skating. He was the South Dakota State Figure Skating Champion sometime in the late 50’s and later enjoyed teaching his grandkids to skate.  He loved playing the piano, accordion, violin and harmonica. His talents were learned mostly by ear and his favorite music to listen to was classical.

The funeral for Thomas “Tom” Leroy Jeanson will be at 10:00 am Thursday September, 19, 2019 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Pine Island with visitation at 9:30 am. Burial will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery.

Condolences

The family of Thomas “Tom” Leroy Jeanson has received the following condolences.

My deepest condolences to the entire Thomas Jeanson family. I last saw Tom 71 years ago (in 1948) when both of us were students in Kingsford (Michigan) High School. I wish I could have met again this talented and amazing individual during the past 18 months when I lived so close, (in Rochester, Minnesota).

Our deepest sympathy on Tom’s death. Tom was such an amazing man... a man of character and integrity, a man of compassion and willingness, a man of knowledge and hope, a man that valued people and friendship. Todd’s dad, Harold, had the pleasure of working with Tom. We had the pleasure of knowing him. Prayers as you hold tight to the beautiful memories and as you transition into a new normal.
