Thomas M. Cummings

Thomas Michael Cummings, 68, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2024 at St Marys Hospital in Rochester after a hard-fought battle with cancer.   Tom was born on June 17, 1955 in Austin, MN to Tom and Dorothy Cummings. Tom attended St. Augustine grade school, Pacelli High School in Austin, and St John’s University in Collegeville, MN.  Upon graduation he received his CPA and practiced accounting for 45 years.

On June 7, 1980 he married Jane Turner. They lived in Superior, WI, Des Moines, IA and eventually made their home in Rochester.  Tom is survived by his wife Jane, his daughters Melissa (Joe) Sorenson and Katie Cummings; grandchildren Elsa and Henry Sorenson, Ajah Cummings.  Also surviving are his siblings Marsha (Jennifer Hess), Judy (Mike) Quinn, Mary (Jerry) Miller, Bob (Lisa) Cummings, Kathy (Chuck) Warren, Tricia (Tom) Wiechmann; sister-in-law’s Terry Rutherford and Becky Ciani; 18 nieces and nephews.  Tom was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws Norm and Hilda Turner brothers-in-law Greg and Brad Turner and his grandparents.

Tom enjoyed being with family especially time spent with his grandkids.  He had many hobbies that included biking, reading, golfing, fishing, and most importantly his yardwork and garden.  An avid fan of Minnesota Twins, Vikings and St John’s football. Tom was also involved in service organizations: Gift of Life Transplant House, Rotary Club, and ABC.

Tom will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. Our hope is that we can fight and battle illness with as much dignity and strength that he did. Tom left the world a better place.  The family wants to thank the Mayo Clinic Health System for their services.

A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at 11:00 am in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home with a visitation one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made out to American Cancer Society or St John’s University.
