Theresa J. “Terri” Damerel

Theresa J. “Terri” Damerel – Rochester, MN

Terri Damerel, 80, of Rochester, MN, died Sunday, March 17, 2024, at her home.

Terri was born October 26, 1943, in Moulton, Alabama to Earl and Bea (Corum) Hodson. She married William M. “Bill” Damerel on June 3, 1961.  In the summer of 1973, her husband’s work with IBM moved the family from Huntsville, Alabama to Rochester, Minnesota where they would raise their daughter and would call home the rest of their lives.

Terri transitioned from housewife to sales consultant helping shoppers in the Women’s Clothing department at Dayton’s starting in 1980. She advanced to working in the Oval Room area not long after starting and retired 18 years later. Terri and Bill enjoyed many adventures together over the years: a trip to Europe for Bill’s work, taking numerous boating trips as Mississippi River travelers, serving together in the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, taking cruises to the Caribbean Islands, and in later years, wintering in their favorite area of Indian Rocks Beach, Florida. She loved living life with the love of her lifetime.

She is survived by her daughter Niki (Jay) Shields of Hastings, MN; grandson Josh Damerel of Hastings, MN and Jay’s two sons, Austin and Zachary; brothers Jerry (Kathy) Hodson of Columbus, MS and Forrest Hodson of Auburn, AL; sister-in-law Mary Fisher of Elkhart, KS; nieces and nephews of multiple generations across multiple states; people she considered family-in-kind.  She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one brother.

The memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 30, 2024, in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be with her husband Bill at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Preston, Minnesota at a later date.

Memorials can be made to Southeast Minnesota Toys-for-Tots.

Online condolences are welcome and a livestream of the service will be available at www.mackenfuneralhome.com.
