Theodore Ernest Adams

It is with great sadness that the family of Theodore E. Adams, 78, of Rochester , MN, gives notice of his death on Thursday, June 13, 2019 from complications of Lewy Body Dementia. He died at home peacefully, surrounded by his family.

Ted was born November 10, 1940 in Stacyville, Iowa to Ernest and Clara (Thome) Adams during the Armistice Day Blizzard. He graduated from Visitation High School in 1959. On July 4, 1959, he joined the United States Marine Corps. In 1973, he married his wife Carol M. Akervik and the couple lived in Rochester. After earning his nursing degree, he continued his education and became a CRNA. He worked at the Mayo Clinic as a Nurse Anesthetist for 29 years.

Ted loved his career; caring for people was his passion. He was proud of his work in the Anesthesia Department at the Mayo Clinic. He loved his family fiercely. Ted’s interests were endless. He loved flowers, birds and fishing. He loved all things history and attended the Scott Hosier WWII Round Table religiously. A cause he was particularly dedicated to was support of veteran’s organizations. Ted was essential in helping to create SE Minnesota Honor Flight and was active in the Marine Corps League.

Ted will be lovingly remembered and missed greatly by his wife of 45 years, Carol; children, Amanda (Jamie), and Zac (Ginny); grandchildren, Kara, Eleanor, Kaylee, Charlie, and Isaac; siblings, Louise, and Veronica; and numerous family members and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Clara Adams; siblings, Eugene, Adams, Walter Adams, and Teresa Mauer; and son, Jeffery Warner.

The memorial Mass for Ted will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 29, 2019 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Rochester with Rev. James Berning officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 28 in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home and one hour prior to the Mass at St. Francis on Saturday. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.

Carol, I am so sorry to hear of Teds passing.   Ted was such a great caring & fun person.  I guess I knew him for almost 50 years and he was always happy and smiling . People who never knew him missed out.....I am sorry we lost contact through the years . I hope maybe you will email me sometime and we can get back in touch.

Dear Carol, Amanda, and Zac.

We are saddened by the loss of your husband and father and our friend Ted.  He is certainly in heaven, telling a few stories, probably doing some woodwork and remodeling.  His love for his family and his service to others was a great example for everyone.   He left this world a better place for him having been here.  We were privileged to know him.  Our prayers go out to all of you, and we know that he will be a great intercessor for all of us in heaven.   Mary & Jim McCarthy

Carol & your family, My sincere condolences to all of you on Ted's passing. I think all of his school mates were so pleased that he was able to attend our class reunion recently in Iowa & I want to thank you for making that visit possible. I remember some years ago at a class reunion Ted talked about his work with the Honor Flights. That was the first time I had heard of that program (I've certainly heard a lot more since) and I remember thinking that that was such a great idea. May all of you find comfort in your memories.

Carol, Amanda, Zac and the entire family.  Our thoughts and prayers are yours as you walk this path.  We will fondly remember gatherings at your home, Ted's graciousness and especially his knowledge shared of orchids.  His plants were his "babies".  May you find peace and joy in your memories.  Fondly, Jan Carlson, Gary & Lindy Pestello

Carol and family, wishing you peace and healing.

Dear Carol,

I never had the pleasure of meeting Ted but he sounds like a most wonderful and kind person. Hoping and praying your memories of good times shared will keep you uplifted. May you be comforted by God’s love for you and your family. In Christ Jesus, Dottie Brama SMSN ‘67

I had the pleasure of working with Ted at St Marys.  He always had good bit of wit to share.  He was a good dude and I am sorry for your loss.
