Sylvia Darlene Goetzman

Sylvia Darlene Goetzman-Rochester.

The memorial Mass for Sylvia Goetzman will be 11:00 am Saturday, December 30, 2017 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church with Rev. Thomas Loomis officiating. Visitation will be the hour prior beginning at 10am. Burial will be in the Calvary Columbarium at a later date.

Sylvia, 79, of Rochester, MN, formerly of Denver, Colorado, died Tuesday, December 26, at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester, after complications of surgery following an unexpected illness.

Born in Denver, Colorado, Sylvia Kotowski married Richard Goetzman on May 5, 1962. The couple had four children, and lived in numerous places before settling in Rochester in 1975. Sylvia was a long-time employee of the Rochester School District working at John Adams Middle School, ESC, and Northrop Community Services. After retirement she volunteered at Season’s Hospice and at the Mayo Clinic.

Survivors include her husband, Richard; children, Kayla Goetzman of Rochester, MN, Keith (Amy) Goetzman of St. Paul, MN, Karen (Mark) Jeanson of Rochester, MN, and Kathy (Nick) Jarosinski of Pine Island, MN; and seven grandchildren, Emma, Sarah, Joe, Alec, Everett, Wyatt, and Scarlett.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her beloved sister, Diane.

She was a 26-year breast cancer survivor and annually walked with her daughters and granddaughters in the Join the Journey breast cancer walk.

She loved to garden with her 29 roses bushes being the highlight, loved putting puzzles together, loved going for a walk every day, and was an incredible baker with cookies and pies being her favorite.

Sylvia was known for her gentle soul and radiant smile. She was a friend to many and will be greatly missed.

Donations to Join the Journey in lieu of flowers are acceptable.

Condolences

The family of Sylvia Darlene Goetzman has received the following condolences.

Dear Kayla and family,
We are so sorry to hear of Sylvia's passing. Although we've only recently come to know you, Kayla, many years ago I worked with Sylvia at the ESC building. She was truly a gentle soul and a wonderful person. May your family experience peace in these difficult days.

Keith and extended family,

So sorry to hear of your mother's passing. Please accept our condolences.

Tim and Crystal Carter

I'm thinking about all of you on this difficult day and in the days to come. I recall with fondness our visits over lunch with Dick, Syl, mom and Aunt Gayle whenever we were in Rochester at the Clinic. And I remember fondly last year when I had an appointment and was anxious about finding my way - when the elevator opened and there was Syl helping someone else navigate the Mayo Clinic halls. It was SO nice to see a friendly, family member. Thoughts and prayers to all of you.

We're glad we visited you when we were passing through there.

It had been a long time since we'd seen you and we knew we all were getting along in years.

One never knows when it'll end as time goes by ... so it's best to renew friendships as the opportunity arises.

Love,  Gary, Lolly, Canda & Doug, Nicki, Jim & Kim & 10 Grandchildren

Dick:  We won't be able to make the Saturday services, but our condolences to you and your extended family on your loss.  Our prayers and best wishes

as you wade through the tough days ahead.  God Bless you and give you his grace.

My very sincere sympathy to Dick and his lovely family. I was able to visit with Syl and Dick quite a few times at our class reunions in Winona. Dick served on the reunion committees with us quite a few times. We certainly enjoyed getting together the Cotter Class of 1954. It is with much sadness I extend my sympathy to Dick regarding his lovely wife Syl. She was a lovely lady and we always had a great time with Syl and Dick. God Bless your family Dick.

My Prayers, Love and Hugs
Donna Peplinski - Classmate

My most sincere sympathy to Dick, Kayla (who I know best) and the entire family.  My thoughts and prayers have been with you since around 12/12 when Sylvia became so ill.  I wish I could attend the service but it's too difficult to make the trip from Madison WI this Saturday. You will continue to be in my thoughts and prayers as you cope with the loss of Sylvia.   Ruth Hoffman Hein

My deepest sympathies to Dick and his family for their loss.  I never had the pleasure of meeting Syl, but heard enough about her to know what a lovely person she was and what a great partnership she and Dick enjoyed.  My thoughts are with you.

I'm so sorry for your loss of such a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend .   Sylvia was such a warm and compassionate person.  She loved her family deeply and shared many wonderful stories about you.  Keep your memories of her close and share them with each other frequently  My prayers are with you during this difficult time.

Dear Dick & Family,

i extend my sincere condolences to you and your family. Sylvania worked with me when I was Director of Community Education at Northrop. She was a wonderful member of our staff and a good friend to me. She was truly one of the most positive people and was so accommodating to people who came into the office. I know she will be greatly missed by you and the family. I pray for healing for all of you.

My deepest sympathy to Sylvia's family.  Sylvia was a wonderful person whom I met when she was at John Adams and I worked in the Technical Repair Department for Rochester Schools.  Keep the wonderful memories close to help you through the sad days ahead.

i am so sorry to hear of Sylvia’s passing. From the time we met over 25 years ago, we just clicked. She had a sweetness and spark that made her fun to work with. She was so proud of her children and grandchildren. She told me so many stories. I feel I know you all. May her memory be a blessing. Sending you my love and condolences, Jackie
