The funeral Mass for Susan M. Bernard will be 10:00 am Saturday, October 11, 2014 at the River Park Chapel of the Macken Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Nelson officiating.  Burial will be in Pleasant Prairie Cemetery, Rochester.

Sue died unexpectedly, but peaceful, at her home due to complications from an ongoing health issue on Sunday, October 5, 2014.

Sue, 48, of Rochester was born August 21, 1966 in Rochester.  She attended St. Pius Grade School and later graduated from Lourdes High School in 1985.  Following high school, she graduated from RCTC as a Medical Lab Technician.  In 1990 she graduated from Western Michigan University as a Physicians Assistant.  At the time of her death she had been employed with Hiawatha Homes Inc. where she had worked 13 years.

Sue married Roger Bernard in 1990 and they were later divorced.  In her younger years she was active in 4-H, winning many awards.  She loved horses and continued participating in horse competitions throughout her life. She enjoyed watching movies, and there were no animals that she didn’t love.

Survivors include her father Joseph (Barb) Vroman and mother Geraldine (Jim) Griffin, both of Rochester;  two brothers, Richard (Jennifer) Vroman of Louisburg, NC and Daniel (Cherie) Vroman of Plymouth, MN.  Sue is also survived by step-siblings Michael (Mavis) Griffin, Brian (Denise) Griffin,  Maureen Griffin, Kristi Schultz, Scott Hovland, James (Nicolle) Hovland, Jonathan (Molly) Hovland and Cory Hovland. Also surviving are 3 nephews and 15 step-nephews and nieces.

Condolences

The family of Susan Marie Vroman Bernard has received the following condolences.

Dear Sue's family,

My thoughts have been with you this week and especially on Saturday. She is gone far too early and I'm so sorry for your loss. You are all in my prayers. Take good care of each other and yourselves as you move through each day.

Much Sympathy comes your way with the loss of Sue.

Mike and Darla Lorsung

It is with a heavy heart that we take a pause today to remember Sue.  I can still remember riding around the back yard bare back on the horse, playing in the yard at Grandmas and Grandpas house in Albany...so many great memories.  Even though we are not there today know that we are praying for you...

Love,

Matt, Shannon, Adie and Grace Lorsung

Dear Gerri & family - I am so sorry to read of Sue's recent passing and for your tremendous loss.  You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Sue was a very caring and compassionate woman.  She supported children and adults with disabilities for several years and she did so in a very kind and caring manner. Sue was a strong advocate for individual's rights, she knew and understood the  individual's needs who she worked with and educated others in how to best support them.  Sue was a very appreciative and grateful person and employee.  Sue will be missed, and never forgotten.   Thoughts and Prayers are with Sue's family, friends, co-workers, the individuals she supported and their families.    Cindy Ostrowski, CEO  Hiawatha Homes

My thoughts and prayers are with this family. May the peace that only comes from God guard your hearts and minds. Rest in the knowledge that we will all be together again someday with those that we love.

So sorry to hear the sad news that Sue passed away.  I have fond memories of spending time with her when we were growing up.  We both loved horses so it was nice to hear about her achievements in 4-H and in horse shows.   I will always remember her infectious smile and her vibrant spirt.   Our sympathies to her entire family.

Please accept my condolences on the loss of my classmate.  I learned a lot from Sue.  I always admired her courage.

Oh, Geraldine and Jim, I am so sorry to learn about Susan. I did not know her but she is the same age as our

children and way too young to be gone. I cannot imagine your heartache. You and in my thoughts and prayers.

Gerri and family, I am so sorry for your loss. May your fond and loving memories of Susan help you through this difficult time.

I remember Sue from the days of 4-H and Lucky Horseshoe Saddle Club. I can even remember her horse though I cannot recall the name:) Those were fun times! I remember Sue being a very kind person. Her life was cut short here on Earth, but it sounds like she had much to be proud of in her work here. Sorry to hear of her passing......May God bless and bring comfort to her friends and family.

so sorry to hear of her passing.

Geraldine, Jim and families,

I am so very sorry for your loss -  God wanted her now, so he gently lifted her up with him.  Your memories and cherished times with her  will always be with you forever.  God bless each and everyone of you.  Love, Josie

Where to begin. I am in disbelief that Sue is gone. She was a person who cared more for others than anyone I have ever met. Patient, understanding, a great listener. If you asked me how many close friends I have, she was one of the three. I was with her when she adopted Delilah, who was my dog's (Emie) best friend. Sue was a bridesmaid in my wedding. I have beautiful pictures of her from that day.  Though it was 20 years ago, I remember it like it was yesterday. We shared countless hours at the barn taking care of our horses and going for trail rides. Suggie was always one of the best kept horses in the barn. Our families spent hours together laughing, cooking and having a wonderful time. Sue was there for me when my first son was born too. I was sad when she moved away and we often talked about visiting one another, though it never happened. I have Polaroid pictures that she sent me one Christmas showing me her horse, cat, Deli, her black pick up truck and herself. I wish I had visited her, but time slipped by. I am truly saddened by her passing. I believe in a Spirit world and know she is there taking care of all the animals we had to part with. My sincerest condolences to her family for their loss. May God hear your prayers and help you find peace.

I remember a lot of good times with Sue...how we laughed and talked about so many things. Sue's love of animals showed her real spirit, which was warm and pleasant. Peace be with you, good friend.
