Susan Marie Murray

Sue Murray, 75, of Rochester, MN passed away surrounded by her husband and sons on Monday, October 3, 2022, at Seasons Hospice in Rochester, MN.

Sue was born August 5, 1947, in Winona, MN to Edward and Marie (Lanik) Bernatz.  She graduated with a degree in nursing from the College of St. Theresa, Winona in 1969.  She met her husband Steve Murray on a blind date during college and the two were married April 4, 1970.  The couple lived in Davenport, IA, Byron, MN and Pine Island, MN before settling in Rochester, MN.  She was active in Pine Island beautification projects, St Michael’s Catholic Church religious education and was a member of the Pine Island school board.  She retired in 2008 from Zumbrota Mazzeppa schools where she was the school nurse.

Sue loved spending time at the family cabin in Stone Lake, WI, watercolor painting and going to her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events and concerts.  She was a die-hard Elvis Presley fan and had a room in her home dedicated to the King’s memorabilia.

She is survived by her husband Steve of Rochester, MN; sons Ryan (Cathy) of Savage, MN, Chad (Kelly) of Eau Claire, WI, Tom of Pine Island, MN, and Mark (Tracy) of St. Paul, MN; her brother Rich Bernatz (Marie) of Danbury, WI and her seven grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by her parents.

A memorial wake will be held in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home on Sunday, October 9, 2022 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. with a Funeral Mass held on Monday, October 10, 2022 at 11:30 a.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church with Rev. Thomas Loomis officiating.  Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Rochester, MN at a later date.

Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society.

Condolences

The family of Susan Marie Murray has received the following condolences.

I knew Sue from living in Pine Island, and from being involved in both St. Michael's Catholic Church and Holy Spirit Catholic Church.  She was a wonderful, caring person, and I am glad was I able to know her in my life.  God bless.

Sorry for your loss.

Sending prayers for your family.

Our adventures with Sue began in 1978 at the Pine Island, MN, kiddies swimming
pool when Rosemary met her with the toddlers, her Chad and our Erika. So began
Rosemary's long friendship with Sue and the other mothers of young ones
frequenting the pool. Soon Steve and Terry got involved (we played a lot of softball
and basketball together). There were mutual visits and celebrations as our families
matured. Rosemary had a memorable birthday celebration in Las Vegas with the PI
ladies, and then a later visit to the Murray's lake cottage in Wisconsin. She was
always "Sweet Sue" to us, a loyal friend and correspondent. Terry and Sue shared
the experience and stories of being school board members in PI, she in a period after
we had moved elsewhere in our corporate odyssey. We particularly enjoyed Steve
and Sue's winter excursions to Tucson before their Florida days, complete with our
"Taco Tuesdays" at Gentle Ben's just off the University of Arizona campus. Lots of
Elvis memorabilia were shared by mail. We will always remember and miss our
dear "Sweet Sue", one of the wonderful souls of our lives.

Sue made the world a better place through her warmth, kindness, and service.  My deepest sympathies to Sue's family and many friends.

I have lost a true friend and former neighbor. We shared many life time moments together over the almost fifty years of our friendship.  We raised our families together through good times and memories.  Sue will always have a warm place in my heart.  Heaven gained a wonderful angel. Rest in peace my friend.

Sue has been a bright light in our home association. Kind and humble with a knack for telling a great joke at the perfect moment. She will be greatly missed.

Tyler and I pray for an open heart and a calm mind as we grieve the loss of a wonderful woman.

Sorry to hear of Sue’s passing.   She was a cherished friend to my sister, Sharon Ross.  I am sure they are meeting up again amongst the angels.

Please accept our sincere condolences on the loss of your wife and mother. She was such a dear lady and she will be missed. Blessings to all of you.

To Steve and All the Murray Family!! My heart is heavy when we heard this news. Sue was very special to us and we so enjoyed sharing a Granddaughter together!!! She has been so very kind and supportive to our daughter,  Tracy! Her kindness,  gentleness and faith was always noticed and appreciated! She will be missed greatly by us all

I’m so sorry to hear about the death of my cousin Sue. My thoughts are with Steve and her children.
I have such great memories of us getting together for Christmas and other family gatherings when we were young and the times we were able to get together as adults.  She  always had a quiet grace about her that I admired.

Murray family,

My heart sank when I heard the news today. She was such a wonderful woman - I often thought of her as a special aunt as she always kept in touch and asked how I was doing. The memories are fond and will forever stay close to my heart. Her place in heaven is a special one. I feel like one of the lucky ones to have known her since Tom and I were babies. Hugs to all of you. May she Rest In Peace.

Sue was a very kind, sweet woman. Her and I talked one time about our love for Elvis! Our sympathies to the family at this most difficult time.

love, Linda and Robak
