Susan Marie McConnell

Susan Marie (Tribbensee) McConnell,  74, of Rochester, passed away unexpectedly from surgery complications on Friday, July 6, 2018.

Susan was born December 28, 1943 in Waseca, MN to Edwin and Delores (Miller) Tribbensee.

After spending her first 10 years in Zumbrota she moved to Rochester.  Susan graduated from John Marshall High School in 1961.

She married Mike McConnell in Forest Lake, MN on March 18, 1967, and they recently celebrated 51 years of marriage.  From this union four children were raised.

Susan was a sports-mom, especially a hockey-mom to her three sons.  Because her boys had a knack for injuries, she was often the designated nurse tending to many cuts, sprains, and broken bones.  She also enjoyed cheering on her grandchildren as they participated in soccer, softball, hockey and other sports.  She was a lover of dogs and had a Rhodesian Ridgeback named Kirby, who Susan showed in competition for many years.  Susan and Kirby won many ribbons together and she was also involved with Search and Rescue with Kirby.

She enjoyed bowling in her earlier years and loved playing dominoes with her friends in Rochester.  Because of Susan’s love for the Florida lifestyle, Mike and Susan acquired a condo in Punta Gorda.  They became winter snowbirds and Susan made many close friends in the Florida community while she played dominoes, bocce ball, and bingo. Susan truly loved the fellowship.  She loved to travel and visited Ireland, Panama Canal, Costa Rica, and had many more travel adventures.  Susan always looked forward to the yearly family reunions.

She loved being a grandmother and had nine grandchildren.  Susan made Christmas extra special with the line of stockings above the fireplace.

Susan is survived by her husband, Mike; four children, Terri of Rochester, Jon (Michele) of Rosemont, Tim (Karen) of West St. Paul and Dan of Minneapolis; six grandchildren, Eric (Kristy), Cullen, Macey, Shay, Morgan, Brooke; and three great-grandchildren, Alexis, Paige and Emma.

Susan will be sorely missed by her sisters-in-law, Jeanne, Linda and Dorothy and brothers-in-law, Pat and Willy.

The funeral service for Susan will be held on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at 7:00 pm in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home. Relatives and friends are invited to come to the chapel for visitation starting at 5:00 pm prior to the service.

Dear Mike and Family.  I worked with Sue for many years at JCP and opened several pudding cups for her at break :)  She was such a sweet, funny lady and one of my favorite people.  I just saw her the other day while we were both shopping at JCP and had such a nice long conversation with her.  I am so happy I ran into her that day and was able to catch up and give her a hug and hear about her fun times she has had going to Florida and traveling.  She was so happy.  Curly Sue we will miss you!  Lisa

Dear Mike and Family.  Sue was always a beacon of light at the condo, her smile and kindness to all will be missed. May God grant you all Peace.

Dear Mike and family please accept our heartfelt condolences at this very difficult time I believe we are still in a bit of shock, only 2 days before we all had breakfast together  if there is anything we can do please do not hesitate to ask  Sue battled so many health issues but never let them stop her from doing what she enjoyed.   Having spent time together in Florida we had many talks she made it clear how much she loved her family and enjoyed all the gatherings you shared  I am so happy she was able to fulfill her dream of spending her winters in Florida a place she truly loved   And having Mick, Macy and Danny there this spring brought a smile to her face.  We will keep you all in our prayers as you struggle during this very difficult time and never doubt how much she loved each and every one of you.

Sue and Terry

Rest in peace Sue. I will miss you but I know you  earned your wings and flew off to a better place. I’ll remember the fun times we had going to the thrift shop looking for some things that you needed when you purchased the condo. I appreciate the kindness you extended when you allowed my family to stay in your condo.

 With love, JudIe Mc Glinchey
