Steven Richard Huyber, 75, of Rochester, MN, passed away peacefully Monday, Nov. 28, 2022 of heart disease at St. Marys Hospital.
Steve was born May 26, 1947 in Rochester to Vincent and Florence (Slade) Huyber. He graduated from John Marshall High School in 1965. He attended Rochester Junior College before enlisting in the U.S. Navy in Dec. 1965. He served in Vietnam as a corpsman with the U.S. Marines and was awarded a Purple Heart. After his military service, he continued his education at the Junior College and met his future wife, Cynthia (Cindy) Zorteau. They were married Mar. 13, 1970 at Christ United Methodist Church. After a brief time working as a surgical technician at Olmsted Community Hospital, Steve and his brother John purchased H & H Electric, Inc. from their father in 1973. After John retired, Steve had another business, Broadway Lighting, which he operated for about ten years.
Steve was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Elks, American Legion, VFW, Disabled American Veterans, and a lifetime member of Sertoma Club. In his spare time, he loved to watch baseball and golf- two games he loved playing in his youth and the years prior to his health issues. He enjoyed fishing with friends and family. Steve was a lifelong LA Dodgers fan.
Steve was a wonderful husband and Papa to his daughters and grandchildren. His loved ones will miss him greatly.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Margo (Peter) Oetliker of Rochester, and Amy (Jason) Gardner of Blaine; grandchildren Greta Oetliker, Will Gardner, Max Oetliker, and Jake Gardner; his brother John; nieces and nephews and many friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Nancy Nelson.
The family wishes to thank the caregivers at St. Marys for their compassion and wonderful care. A special thank you to Dr. Jeanne Huddleston at Mayo Health System Lake City for her outstanding care.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, Dec. 5 in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home. Visitation begins at 9:30 a.m. Commitment of the ashes will be at the Minnesota State Veteran’s Cemetery in Preston. All that wish to attend are invited.

Condolences
The family of Steven R. Huyber has received the following condolences.
Steve was more than a friend to me, since 1954, when we first met and played toys in the sand as his dad was as creating brick back door steps at the cabin. Steve was a friend, an adventure, a summer farm worker, and even at times acted as a special brother to me.
Steve was unique, with different talents, experiences, and different values that took him down different paths through his journey in life. His journey contained his many footsteps gathering memories through family, friends, golf buddies, and work associates; thus strengthening or reshaping his special character and sense of humor.
Whether one was a childhood friend, an army buddy, a special/close friend, sibling, a daughter, or significant other, his reflection left behind of those special times, creative adventures, or the single moments he shared with each of us were special. These special times and moments have allowed us to bring a new level of self-energy in strengthening one’s own character values to share with others during our mission in life.
Steve’s memory is everlasting in each of us.
Bill Bakey

We offer our condolences on your loss Cindy & family. Our paths crossed with yours and Steve’s over the years from being childhood neighbors to seeing Steve while shopping at the store on Broadway for a lighting fixture.

To the Hyber family and friends I would like to say I loved Steve . Cindy thank you for keeping me informed about Steve’s condition over the last month or so.
I first met Steve in San Diego along with a mob of new Marines staying at our house on weekend passes. He stood out as the respectful “responsible one”. He cleaned up and kept the lads in line best he could.
He could always make my mom laugh which she and I both loved about him.
Steves sense of humor was a true one of a kind. He would be Mick Jagger dancing around our living room lip sinking along to The Rolling Stones , Under My Thumb and Can’t Get no Satisfaction.., a true piece of work and I loved it !
I am so glad I got to spend time with him on and off since I was 14
I will miss him….he was a really good man
My Sympathy to all of Steve's family members. Knew Steve for several years and Steve was an important part of our Tuesday/Thursday golf group. Could have easily made his living by being a golf instructor. Knew people and knew the game. God Bless.
I am so sorry for the loss of your dad and husband. May God’s loving arms comfort you during this time.
To dearest Margo and Family
Sending you our love and condolences at this extremely sad time for you.
Lots of love and our very best wishes
Love From
