Stanley John Dee

Stanley John Dee, 85, of Rochester, died Wednesday May 25, 2022 surrounded by his family at his home.

Stan was born on November 4, 1936 to Stanley and Mary Ann (Fitzpatrick) Dee. He was the third of four children and grew up on their family farm. He graduated from Rochester High School in 1954. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree and Master’s degree from Winona State University. He taught at Golden Hill, was principal at Pinewood, and retired from Stewartville Schools as a teacher in 1992.

He married Mildred Kramer on August 2, 1975 at St. Aloysius Church in Elba, Minnesota. They resided in Rochester. Stan and Millie were the heart and soul of the family’s life on the dairy and crop farm. He loved working on the farm, life in general, watching high school sports, and his family.

Stan is survived by his two children: Stan and Karla, both of Rochester; his brother, Ray Dee of Rochester; cousin, Betty Fitzpatrick of Oak Creek, WI; brothers-in-law: Edward Kramer of St. Charles, Leo Kramer of St. Charles, and Tom Helfter of Le Center; and sisters-in-law: Joan Pollema of St. Charles, and Shirley Ann Dee of Rochester.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Mildred; his parents; sisters: Virginia Kuisle, and Margaret Maxon; brothers-in-law: Ralph Kuisle, Lloyd Maxon, Joe Leisen, Leonard Kramer, and Dave Pollema; sisters-in-law: Regina Leisen, JoAn Kramer, Lucille Helfter, and Donna Kramer.

A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, June 4, 2022 at 11:00am at Church of the Resurrection Catholic Church in Rochester. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Rochester.

Condolences

The family of Stanley John Dee has received the following condolences.

Dear Family of Stanley Dee, I was saddened to hear of his passing. Mr. Dee was my 5th grade teacher at Central Elementary School in Stewartville. It was my first year there having moved from Winona, scared, new and petite. He was tall, kind and gracious with a sense of humor. I felt welcomed and valuable. It's often said a teacher can have a profound impact on students and this former student left 5th grade a better person because of him. My sincere condolences. May you find comfort in the kind words and memories others have shared. God Bless.

Dear Karla and Stan

I am very sorry for your loss. Your father was a role model and very present in your lives. I know how much you loved and respected him. May the memories of him be always with you and his legacy be carried out through you to your students, and into the farm. My condolences,

Maria Willrich and family

Mr. Dee was my 6th grade teacher at Golden Hill (1958-59). He made a lasting impression on me and it had a strong impact on my life. I vividly remember reading stories from the "Weekly Reader" back then about a new government agency being formed called NASA that focused on spaceflight and research and the opening of the NASA Goddard Spaceflight Center in May 1959. My thoughts were that this would be a cool place to work. Of course for a pre-teen growing up in Olmsted County that was quite a reach. Eventually I headed off to college and received a BS degree in Chemistry and a PhD in Physical Chemistry with a Physics minor. And, shockingly, some 21 years after Mr. Dee was my teacher, I was hired as a "Space Scientist" at Goddard where I worked for a total of 40 years before retirement. I was lucky to have attended Golden Hill and having teachers such as Mr. Dee (although I didn't really appreciate or understand their impact at that time) and even luckier to have a career doing what I wanted to do.

My condolences to the family.

George and I send you our condolences on the passing of your father.  George and Stan were Mayo High staff members at the same time.  My years at BV with the two of you were blessed by much support from both of your parents.  Your Mother got us into the computer age from the beginning.    I know firsthand how PROUD your parents were of the two of you.    I did keep up with where the two of you were when you got your jobs.  Very proud that you continued the "educator gene" you grew up in.

Sorry I can't be there in person to give the two of you a hug.  We have a family funeral at the same time.

I was one of Mr. Dee’s 5th grade students at Stewartville Elementary School (Central) in 1968.  He was a wonderful teacher-rigorous, organized, kind, and had a sense of humor.  He was respectful of his students and expected us to be respectful of each other.  Several of my siblings also had him for 5th grade and we all agree he was one of our favorite teachers!  Thank you, Mr. Dee!  Rest In Peace!
