Shauna Lynn Rasmussen

Shauna Lynn Rasmussen, 40 of Rochester, died peacefully on December 23, 2019 at her residence following a courageous battle with cancer that lasted for over five years.

Shauna was born on March 29, 1979 in Rochester to Eugene “Gene” and LaDonna (Rueb) Rasmussen. She graduated from the Rochester Community and Technical College Nursing Program in 2004. Up until the time of her illness, she worked at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester as a Registered Nurse. She absolutely loved doing things with her family and friends, traveling, and enjoying her pets. She was the caregiver to her mother who battled cancer and died in 2012.

She is survived by her father Gene of Rochester, MN; sister Heather (Joe) Casey of Surprise, AZ; her brother Tyler (Alicia) Fallon of Owatonna, MN; three nephews Elliot Fallon, Logan Casey, Nathan Casey, and two nieces Elisabeth Fallon and Brielle Casey; aunt Patricia Campbell of Plymouth, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

The Rasmussen family would like to thank the many caregivers who helped Shauna, especially Mayo Clinic Hospice, Christy Peterson, and her beloved family members and friends who helped her over the past five years.

Condolences

The family of Shauna Lynn Rasmussen has received the following condolences.

I felt so blessed to be a small part of this amazing young woman’s life.  She had such a big heart and always cared about others. She had the most amazing smile. We had some really fun times together with Patricia, Nancy and myself and some great times when Robyn would join us. She lived life to the fullest and fought so hard. I know how difficult this loss is to her family and all those who loved her.  Cherish all the great times you had with her.

Gene...I am truly sorry to hear of your daughter's passing. Every time I saw her, she was always smiling, full of energy and and was always in the mood for joking around.  I am honored to have known her for the few years that I have.  You and your family are in my thoughts. ..

Shauna We Hardly Knew Ye....... I had the privilege of knowing her for just two years thru her beloved Aunt Patricia, but her joy  of living, strength and courage truly has been and remains an inspiration to me.

She cooked with her Aunt  Patricia and me. We did my Italian family’s special pasta recipe, and some of her favorite seafood recipes. I will never forget the fun, relaxing times we had eating these food creations of ours.

She was a wonderful, compassionate Mayo-trained RN. Tho she never was my nurse, but as I have several nurses among my family and friends, I sensed Nurse Shauna’s love and compassion for all the people and animals she encountered in life. The following poem exemplifies a little bit about the wonderful person that Shauna was.

“She Was There”

When a calming, quiet presence was all that was needed, She was there.

In the excitement and miracle of birth or in the mystery and loss of life, She was there.

When a silent glance could uplift a patient, family member of friend, She was there.

At those times when the unexplainable needed to be explained, She was there.

When the situation demanded a swift foot and sharp mind, She was there.

When a gentle touch, a firm push, or an encouraging word was needed, She was there.

In choosing the best one from a family’s “Thank You” box of chocolates, She was there.

To witness humanity,—its beauty, in good times and bad, without judgment, She was there.

To embrace the woes of the world, willingly, and offer hope, She was there.

And now, that it is time to be at the Greater One’s side, She is there.

Gene,

My deepest sympathy on the passing of your daughter.  I will pray for you and ask God’s help to lessen your loss.

Warmest regards,

Frank Siebenaler

I became to know Shauna when she was about 10 years old.  She was a loving person and cared for all.  She loved being with her family and especially hanging out with Mom.  Shauna and her mom loved to go to wine tasting events and stay over night at bed and breakfasts.  Shauna's biggest enjoyment was going to the families lake property.  After we built our home there, Shauna spent her off days from work there.  I treated Shauna as my own she was a person to be proud of.  I will miss her very much, just wish I was not such of a hard head.  I am so sorry.  I have always loved Shauna.  Shauna when you see your Mom give her a big hug for me and tell her I love both of you.  Love Jim

My dear, sweet, beautiful niece, Shauna is gone and so is my partner in crime, my confidant, the fun loving girl to have adventures with, the girl who loved to travel, the always singing and dancing girl, pedicures and manicures together, my cooking and restaurant guide, and her excitement to cook for or with me and her friends and family. Shauna was always excited to see the latest movie with me or introducing me to one I may not have seen. And we watched our guilty pleasure tv shows together and we had a good time just being together!

Shauna was so special to me and so many people. I was there when she was born and was with her through the years having fun and many adventures together along the way...... and I was there at the end to help her pass on.  I was honored and privileged to do both. There will be a big hole in my life and heart that no one can quite fill the same way that Shauna could. I will miss her so much—Love her always!

Shauna was “UNFORGETTABLE” to me and many people. I like to remember her when she was healthy and full of life with that sparkle in her eyes, her BIG kilowatt smile, her gorgeous mane of wavy blonde hair swinging as she talked or when she had it in a ponytail, and her great wonderful laugh. Shauna was a beautiful person inside and out and had such a love for animals that you just knew how good of a person she was.

Rest In Peace SWEET Shauna — You deserve it after your long long fight. Heaven has one more angel to take care of the animals.

Your loving Auntie or Super Aunt

(as Shauna always called me)

I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYONE FIGHT AS HARD AS SHAUNA DID!  WE HAD SO MANY EXPERIENCES OVER THE LAST FIVE YEARS, SOME REALLY FUN ONES AND SOME THAT WERE REALLY TOUGH! SHE WILL LIVE ON THROUGH HER FAMILY, FRIENDS,  AND PEOPLE SHE MET ALONG THE WAY.  REST IN PEACE SHAUNA!  ?

What a jem! To not have to fight and be in pain has to be so comforting. Almost makes one curious just exactly what her and Ladonna might be up to already!  Praters for the family.

I didnt have the pleasure of knowing Shauna except thru pictures and stories shared by her amazing sister Heather. Beauty,  strength and a loving nature seems to be a family trait. May you rest in Heaven Shauna. Sending my love, prayers and condolences to you Heather and all of your family.

Shauna, your infectious smile and hearty laugh will forever ring in my mind. You fought one of the most courageous fights and you gave it your all. I am so blessed to have been able to call you a friend for all these years and I am so happy that you are now living pain free, and walked into the arms of your Mom when entering your eternal life.

Condolences to the family. Shaunas life was short but well lived. Praying for comfort John Rasmussen and family ?
