Family and friends of Nick,

Words can soothe the pain you feel but know that it is a shared pain.
You, like Nick, are not alone. He touched a great many people. And grand words aside, it is his smile and laughter that warmed the heart and soul which is why we all miss him so.

Though too short, he accounted himself well for his years.

His positive attitude and eagerness to share lessons learned made him an invaluable member of our company," said Capt. Lawrence Csaszar, in a statement released by the Army.

May GOD's love give you strength during this sad time.  May your family be comforted to know, in his brief life he made such an impact of everyone who met him.  I met him in our SCA group and for such a young man, he seemed so mature and respectful, and smart.  Yet he was fun and always had that huge smile. His loss will be a big hole in our lives, but I am glad I was able to know him and will remeber the good times.

Again my deepest sympathy

Jackie, Randy, David and family,

We are so sorry for your loss of such a wonderful son and brother.  We never had the pleasure of meeting Nick, but we knew how fine a man he was by his little brother's love for him.  David spoke of him many times with pride, justifiably so.  Please know how deeply we all appreciate the sacrifice he made for our country and freedom.  May God bless you and give you all peace in this very difficult time.

With deepest sympathy,

Connie (and Tim, Colin, Torin).

I did not know Nicholas, but I am very appreciative of his service.  I have a cousin serving in Afgan right now.  It saddens me that Nicholas lost his life fighting for his country but I hope it brings you some comfort to know he was doing something he loved and fighting for all of us.  We are all so thankful for his service.  May God help you all through this difficult time.  I am very sorry for your loss. My Deepest Sympathy.

Nick was an amazing individual. I had the pleasure of meeting him through some mutual friends and we hung out quite a few times. My favorite memory of him was the night before he got the tattoo on his arm he went with my then boyfriend and his friend to watch them get there tattoos and he came back so excited and couldn't wait to show me this tattoo that he was going to get for free. All I could do was shake my head no, he was so excited about it. Nick was a great kid and he will forever be missed.

Words cannot express how sorry I am for your loss... Nick and I became friends as pen-pals during his deployment in Iraq and upon his return to Ft. Lewis we enjoyed a good friendship. He was always in good spirits and put others before himself.

Nick was a man who understood what honor and chivalry really mean. He treated all women exceptionally regardless of age/status/etc and would do anything he could to help out his friends. I will miss him very deeply and I am sorry you will have to miss him too... He really loved his family and we talked often of you in our times we shared together. He was one of my heroes from the moment we began corresponding and he will always be one of my heroes.

You are in my prayers.

I am so sorry for your loss. Sgt Nicholas has given the ultimate sacrifice for all of us. My cousin was killed in Afghanistan  so I know what this is like. Know everyone is so very proud and thankful for Sgt. Nicholas. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

To the family, I am sorry for your lose of your brave young man.  Thank God for his service, and may God hold him in his arms. My prayers for all of you and for all the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace. Amen

Words can not express how sorry I am for your loss. Your son died defending my Freedom, there are not enough words to tell you how forever grateful I will be for his Service to our Country. My son Joe Gallagher was a dear friend of Nick's and served in Iraq at the same time as your son. They were also stationed together in Fort Lewis. The loss of Nick has effected Joey very much, for they had a bond that only soldiers understand. I wish I could ease your familes pain, my heart aches for you. The one thing that I can tell you that I hope gives you some comfort is that Nick has claimed his seat in the Kingdom of Heaven and that peace will eternally be his...

Nick.. I'm at a loss for words. I've known you forever. My memories as a child playing with you, well, playing the games I wanted to, so my little pony's it was. I think I am so mad at the fact that you were so bright and had so many plans. I always felt like you were one step ahead of me. I joined the army a couple months before you did, as you know, but you were so much better at it. You were so smart and you took time to understand things and help others when they needed it. Such as chemistry and math! You got me through the chemistry class.. although it was through e-mails, you took the time to help me out. I hate that you never ran into my husband keaton over there in Afghanistan. You guys were at the same FOB and everything.. I know you said you were gonna look for him and finally meet him.. since it was hard to correspond everything back home.. but I guess you'll never get that chance. You were truly an angel with the biggest heart and would never do anyone wrong. Life was a blessing everyday you were alive. I am blessed to have known you. I'll see you someday my friend. Much love to you and your family.

When God needs another Angel, he always takes the best. I never knew Nick but my son worked with him. But I did meet him, very professional! Always willing to help, just an Awesome young man! Derek always said he was one of the most amazing guys you would ever meet, I am proud to know this wonder young man in passing, Proud to see his Photo, keeping us safe, I hope and pray things will get better for his family, especially his little bro!

Keep safe!

Stand down and rest well young soldier. Your watch is over.

From the bottom of my heart I offer my thanks to you and your family for the sacrifice you have made for me and my family. I pray your family finds peace in this time of pain and loss knowing you now are in the house of our LORD JESUS CHRIST.

RIP SGT NICHOLAS DICKHUT.

I did not know Nicholas, but am deeply greatful for his sacrifice and to his family for supporting him. Without all of you we would not have the America we know today. Thank you to Nicholas and his family and I am so sorry for your loss. Deepest Sympathy.

It is with great sorrow and condolences I write to your family.  Nick was a great man.  He worked at my OfficeMax store and exemplified skills which showed characteristics of great leader.  Nick served his customers well - and he served his country well.  Nick will be sorely missed ... Again, please have comfort in the kind words ...

John 14:1-4 "Let  not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father's  house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to  prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come  again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know  the way to where I am going."

It is with sincere heavy heart that I send my condolences to your family at this very difficult time.  I am a Viet Nam infantry veteran that served with the 25th Infantry Division.  Your loss is our loss.  I did not know Nicholas but every time I read of a combat KIA, I feel the loss deep in my heart going back to my time in combat.  I am so sorry.

Roger

The first time I met Nick, he was 14 years old. I was very impressed with his sense of humor and his quick wit. He also had a smile that was contagious. I remember thinking to myself, I like this kid. Little did I know that last year he would become my son-in-law.

When he hurt his knee, I remember thinking how his dream of serving his country was over, I did not know the convictions and determination this young man had. I think many others would have just dropped out of the army and collected disability payments the rest of their lives, not Nick. He worked very hard at getting his knee strong again so he could get back to serve with his unit.

Jackie and Randy, I just want to say that his willingness to serve our country and the sacrifice he made, is just a testimony of the wonderful job you did raising that fine young boy into the hero he became.

God's Blessings,
Cathy

My heart is saddened that your family, and our community, has lost such a gifted and brave young man.  We appreciate his heroism and sacrifice, and yours as well.   I am so, so sorry for your loss, and you will be in our prayers in the months to come.

May there be peace in your heart that your son is our hero as well as your little boy.   Speak often of him to everyone so that no one ever forgets the sacrafice he gave.

I'm so very sorry for your loss. Nicholas sounds like he was a wonderful young man. He was a hero for our country, and for that I thank you all for sharing him with the rest of us. I don't know you but I know other families that have someone in the service so I know that you all sacrificed just as much as he did. Thank you. I pray for peace for you all. God bless,

My heart aches for you and your family. Nick grew up down the street from us in Stewartville as a young child.  We are honored that Nick was part of a elite military that served our country. We are very proud to say that we knew him. His memory will always be with us.

May God guide you thru this difficult journey. May you know that someday we will all be reunited in Gods Kingdom.

And to you Nick....may you rest in Peace and know that the country honors you and will never forget the sacrifices that you have made. God Bless you and your family.

My heart goes out to your family at this time.  I only met Nick once, camping in the same encampment at Pennsic, but over those 2 weeks, I really enjoyed getting to know him.  He was a wonderful, young man, very thoughtful and kind to this old lady.  And I loved his sense of humor!  Every year since, we've felt his loss at Pennsic and wish he was able to join us again and it saddens me greatly that now that will never happen.

Please know that your son was an exceptional young man who will be greatly missed.  He touched lives.

To Sgt. Nick's mom & family,

I am very sorry for your loss. I had the pleasure of knowing Nick as he grew up with my son in Stewartville.  I knew him from scouts and traveling basketball.  My memories of Nick was a independant intelligent boy who had the great quality of taking on challenges.  I best remeber him with a smile on his face, a great conversation and always with a appreciative thank you.  God Bless you and thank you Nick.

To Sgt. Nick's mom & family,

I am very sorry for your loss.  As the mom of an Army Cpt, who also served in Afghanistan,I grieve with you.   I thanked God every day for keeping my son safe.   Your son is truly a hero, & gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country.  I will be sending Nick's mom an afghan in the next few weeks crocheted by women all over the country who also grieve with you.  I will assemble the squares & mail it to you soon.  Our group's name is American Angels Heroghans, active since 2006.  We are a yahoo group, and sadly......have sent almost 1,000 Heroghans to grieving families of fallen heroes.

God bless all of you.

My deepest and most hearfelt condolences. I knew Nick through the SCA here in Tacoma, WA. Immediately he was at home with us, one of the family. I will keep close in my heart his sense of duty and chivalry, his smile and sense of humour, and his great love of family, friends and country. He is beloved by our barony, Blatha an Oir.

I miss you, Jacques.

I am so sorry for your loss.  We were all so saddened to hear that someone so loved and respected was taken from us at such an early age.  Please accept my condolences in this difficult time.

Nick was one of the most kind, couragous, forthright and courteous young men I have ever met. He lives  his life with honor and his loss is felt by many. He will be remembered, and his sacrifice honored.

Heather

I knew Nick through the SCA.  His heart, courage and strength were innate qualities about him that are pretty rare to find in a person so young, let alone at all anymore.  He was a stellar young man;  I am so sorry for your loss and the pain that you are going through right now.  Please find strength in knowing that he did a lot of good and touched many lives in a positive way.  I am so sorry that this has happened to him, you are in my thoughts and prayers.
