Sean Fitzgerald

Sean Fitzgerald, 39, of Rochester, MN, died Tuesday, February 9th, 2021 at his home.

Sean was born on February 9th, 1982 in Rochester, MN. He graduated from John Marshall High School in 2000. While Sean was attending college he was the employee of the year at Welp Construction 5 years running! He completed his Radiography degree from Mayo Clinic College of Medicine in 2014 and began his career at Winona Health Systems specializing in CT imaging. In 2016, Sean transitioned to Mayo Clinic where he continued his career and built strong personal relationships with his CT family.

Sean loved life and lived each day to the fullest. He was known for his megawatt smile, having a heart of gold, and his ability to light up a room with his big personality and awesome sense of humor. He loved spending time with his adoring friends and family. Sean’s favorite season was summer and he enjoyed spending time outdoors golfing, boating, and fishing all with a cold beer in his hand. Sean was an avid sports fan loving the Vikings, Twins, Gophers and most importantly the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Heaven may have gained an angel, but there has been an inexplicable emptiness left for us here on earth. A mother who will never see her son again, a father lost his “buddy”, a sister who will forever grieve the loss of her sibling soul-mate, a nephew who won’t remember his uncle but will forever be compared to him, along with the countless people who won’t instantly have a better day, just from seeing his dazzling smile. Sean’s family asks that, please, if you are struggling in silence, reach out for help. You are not a burden and you are not alone. Nothing saddens us more than to think of others who are struggling to cope with life… we pray you find hope and the courage to carry on despite the darkness.

Sean is survived by his mother, Theresa (Louis) Vetsch, and his father, Paul Fitzgerald.  Siblings; Katie (Drew) Welp, Colin Vetsch, Caroline (Bob) Monson, Matthew Fitzgerald, and Robert Fitzgerald. He is survived by his niece and nephews. He is preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents and his step mother.

A Celebration of Life will be planned for a later date. Until that date, and in lieu of flowers, buy some bait, find a quiet lake, and go fishing.

Memorials are preferred to NAMI or Minnesota Adult and Teen Challenge of Rochester.

Condolences

The family of Sean Fitzgerald has received the following condolences.

During the early weeks of Covid Sean and I were "cellies" in our CT pandemic staffing pod. It was stressful not knowing what would happen, and everyone was scared to come to the hospital so CT was very slow. Sean and I both knew we'd get into trouble without something to keep us busy, so one night I printed out coloring sheets of germs and stole my daughters crayons and brought them to work. Sean wanted to color with us but said the germs were too "girly" so we found him a picture of a Jeep driving away from an exploding volcano with a T-Rex  chasing it to color and he was so excited! He colored really slowly because he wanted it to be a masterpiece, and even wheedled some "better" colors out of one of the other nurses to make it great. We hung all the pictures up in our peds area and his bright red T-Rex definitely stood out next to the pastel-toned germs and handwashing pictures us nurses did!

The amount of joy he found in a coloring a picture was just one example of how Sean  had a way of taking every day stuff and making it fun. He always had a prank or a joke, and it was impossible to stay mad at him when he grinned at you. My last memory of him is smiling and teasing one of his fellow techs in CT. His coworkers will miss him very much. I am so very sorry for your loss.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to you and your families !

Sean was a very close friend during one of the best and worst times of my life. I cried on his shoulders but I also gut laughed with him on countless occasions. He was an awesome ambassador to life. For anyone else there to remember, watching him scare people on the way back from meals or feeding the deer all our extra food were some of the best memories. Until we meet again, Sean.

I am so sorry for your loss, I know that nothing can fill the enormous hole in your hearts. I worked with Sean in CT in Rochester, I miss that big bright smile and the fun loving pranks. He brought joy to so many and made our work days brighter. He is loved and missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. I extend my sincere condolences your family.

Sean’s smile and charm are what I will remember most from high school classes with him many years later. My heart, prayers, and thoughts are with his many friends, all who loved/knew him, and especially his family. The world is a brighter, better place because of him.

Sean was very magnetic and always super fun to be around. So many good memories going back to Junior high. Sending prayers and love to the Fitzgeralds. I hope you all heal in good time and try to remember that Sean is in a peaceful place.

Deepest condolences to my aunt Theresa and  family. Sean made me laugh every single time I saw him. I miss him already. Love you guys.

There are no words that even come close to expressing the heartfelt sympathy I am feeling for all of you. I am terribly sorry for your loss. Now I am thinking back to when he got his first pair of Rollerblades for Christmas and how hilarious it was to see him in the driveway at the 55th St. home for the first time. Arms flailing in every direction, yet he never fell. Then I remember snowmobiling at the home off of HWY.14  Theresa, with me almost falling off the back of the snowmobile, chasing Sean on his much faster snowmobile. I know you will cherish all your memories and he will never leave you for he is with you in them and in your hearts.

I’m incredibly sorry for your deep loss and deep pain. I wish for your hearts to feel peace again someday. Sean’s smile will always shine down on us. He will be truly missed.

So sorry to hear of Sean's passing. We were buddies in highschool and shared some funny moments. Truly a stand up guy. I think anyone who knew him probably has a dozen stories that makes you laugh out loud. My condolences to his family.

Sean was a smart guy.  I could rely on him if I needed help deciphering a protocol 'novel' in CT.  He was also a very kind person who wanted to make everyone laugh.  He will be missed.

Katie & Drew: so sorry to hear of your loss of Sean. Our daughter-in-law, Cindy Siegle, told us she met you, mentioned our son Steve and the connection was made to us (and the shed) in your conversation. We will be keeping you and yours in our thoughts and prayers.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and yours. Rest in peace Sean you were kind and you had a good heart.

I am so sorry for your loss.

I am so sorry to hear of Sean's passing. I will never forget when I drove for uber/ Lyft that he was one of my passengers and then after that he would sometimes call to say hey pick me up! I also worked with him in CT for a short time and while I didn't know him well,  he was a fun soul to be around.  He will be missed and may he rest in heaven.  :( my deepest condolences to his family.
