Sally Ann McGovern

Sally Ann McGovern age 82, a long time resident of Rochester passed away at home on Saturday, December 8th.  Sally was born January 27, 1930 in Covington, Kentucky, daughter of Allen and Della Harrod.

Sally graduated from La Salette Academy in May 1948.  She married William Kenneth McGovern “Bill” on August 8, 1953 at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Covington, Kentucky.  In 1954, Bill and Sally made their home in Rochester.  Bill passed away on September 8, 1987.

She worked part-time 23 years at Sears in the catalog and hardware departments.  Sally retired in 1992.  She was a long-time member of St. Francis Catholic Church.  She did volunteer work at St. Francis School, Channel One, Community Clothesline and Friends Bookstore.  Sally was known for her beautiful baby afghans she crocheted for Bundles of Love.

Sally’s interests included traveling, gardening, reading, knitting and crocheting.

Survivors include two daughters; Theresa Ann (Tom) Barlow of Eyota, Kathleen McGovern of Rochester and one son; Patrick William McGovern of Oronoco.  She is also survived by four grandchildren; John, William (Shannon), Megan and Tyler, one great granddaughter; Julia, one step grandson; Carl (Jenny) and two step great grandchildren; Karlee and Peyton.

A memorial service for Sally Ann McGovern will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 13, 2012 in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home in Rochester. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Thursday.  Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Memorials are preferred to Seasons Hospice.
