Ruth “Dixie” Fredericksen

Ruth “Dixie” Vaughn Fredericksen, 87, of Rochester passed away on September 17, 2017 at Samaritan Bethany Nursing Home.

Ruth Vaughn MacKenzie was born on September 6, 1930 in Memphis, Tennessee. Dixie grew up in St. Paul, MN and was raised by her three loving aunts. On August 23, 1952, she married James Fredericksen. She worked at the University of Minnesota Hospital in Minneapolis as an X-ray Technician. The couple lived in the Byron and Kasson area before retiring to the Leech Lake area. In their later years, they lived in Rochester. Dixie loved football, especially attending her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events, along with rooting for the Green Bay Packers. She also loved fishing and often out-fished her husband on Leech Lake.

Dixie is survived by her children, Scott (Deb) of Viola, MN, Amy (Scott) Oeltjen of Rochester, MN, Carrie (Steve) Donney of Harmony, MN, and Ross of Byron, MN; grandchildren, Zach, Lisa, Nick, Adam, Sarah, Megan, Allyson, Kelly, and Laura; great-grandchildren, Derek, Lacy, Knox, Zoey, and Denver. She is preceded in death by her parents, sister, aunts, husband, and daughter-in-law, Mary Fredericksen.

The Memorial Service for Dixie will be held on Thursday, September 21, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the Samaritan Bethany Chapel with Chaplain Carol Shaffer officiating. Fellowship will be held one hour prior to the service at the Samaritan Bethany Nursing Home.

A special thank you is extended to the numerous caregivers and staff of Samaritan Bethany Nursing Home and Season’s Hospice for their loving care of Dixie.

Memorials are preferred to Seasons Hospice and the Transplant House of Rochester.

Macken Funeral Home is handling the arrangements and online condolences are welcome at www.mackenfuneralhome.com.
