Ruth C. Hein
Ruth Caroline Hein, born on March 13, 1935, passed away peacefully on June 28 at Saint Mary’s Hospital. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who cherished every moment spent with her family. Ruth was born in Newton, IA to Henry and Hattie Gruenhaupt. She attended school in Grinnell, IA and following, she graduated from Nursing school at Saint Mary’s school of Nursing in Rochester on June 2, 1957. She met Alvin Hein Jr. in Rochester and the two later married on December 29, 1957. They were blessed with three children.
Ruth had a passion for sewing and took great joy in crafting various items for her family and friends. Her creations, made with love and care, were treasured by everyone who received them.
Ruth found beauty in the simplest things in nature. She loved collecting seashells and rocks, which she often displayed proudly in her home and at the cabin. She also had a special affection for owls, butterflies, and flowers, finding joy and inspiration in their presence.
Ruth found great joy in gardening, spending time at the family cabin, and visiting with friends. She was also an avid sewer, generously donating her time and talents to Bundles of Love, where she made a significant impact on many lives with her handcrafted items.
Ruth was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Alvin Hein, and her parents. She is survived by her children David (Debi), Kristi, and Jeff (Shelly); her grandchildren Michael, Miranda, Cole, and Riley; and her great-grandchildren Zamara, Sam, Nik, and Nori.
The memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at Redeemer Lutheran Church with Pastor Adam Koglin officiating. The visitation will be one hour prior to the service. A luncheon will be served at the church following the service.

The family of Ruth C. Hein has received the following condolences.
Sweet Ruth was a blessing in our lives in Rochester. Her loving care and generosity with our young daughter was priceless. Our daughter Katie remembers Ruth being so very nice.
Julie called Ruth her Minnesota momma given Katie was our first child and Ruth supported Julie so much… We will always cherish Ruth and Al in being our neighbors and friends…
God Bless Ruth…
I was so sorry to read about the death of your Mom and grandma. We became friends of Ruth and Al when on a trip to Alaska over 20 years ago. We have enjoyed going out to supper together when we return to Rochester for appointments. Sending sympathy and prayers to all of you.
Remembering Ruth and Al, and fondly thinking of David, Kristi and Jeff. God bless you all.
I knew Ruth through Bundles of Love. She was a lovely, caring person. My group of “Cut Ups” had to keep one step ahead of her to keep her supplied with the baby items to sew; her favorites were the gowns. She will be missed by many.
With sincere sympathy,
Brenda Gaskell
My deepest sympathies to the family of Ruth. We had a grand time on bus trips, tea parties and visiting with our friends and Ruth.
Ruth will be missed!
We are so sorry to hear of Ruth's passing. We lived in Sunset Terrace for years with Al and Ruth and their family. Ruth was a very special person and we are so grateful they were part of our lives. Bill and Darlene Timmerman. So sorry we were not able to come to her service as we had another obligation.
BLUE; your favorite color - Blue, our sad hearts now that you are not visible to us. It is so very hard to say goodbye to a steadfast and loving woman that has been in my life , my neighborhood, my mother Janet's dear friend since day one of my life. Ruth took careful watch of my sister and brother on the day I was born in 1970. She continued to be a constant in our lives as we grew up in a very sacred and safe neighborhood on 17 -1/2 street. Ruth shared her gifts In so many ways with all those she met. Her talents and love of sewing and gardening stand out to me. She assisted me in getting my first real paycheck from Matzkes sewing center while I helped with their inventory alongside her one summer long ago. Most evident was her beautiful smile as she always showed genuine concern for those around her. Ever' present' she was ...and she loved her family so fully, taking pride and joy in sharing her children and grandchildren's life moments. We sat with you at sporting events, coffee and tea parties, block parties and many other fun times. She loved her friends equally and you know who you are. There are so many dear friends Ruth attracted and kept close with. She was great to all of them. Church friends, card club , the list goes on! Ruth Hein , well -respected, trusted and a valued life- long friend...the heavens received a GOLDEN ANGEL on a sunny , blue- sky day when you entered your eternal home! Bless you Ruth, always. We miss you so much and thank you for all the great mentoring you shared and memories. We've known you for many decades and still you're Gone -too- soon. Love you and yours , -- Sarah Hagen Frank
Ruth was a wonderful lady. As a young boy I always enjoyed Ruth and Al visiting our farm in NE Iowa. She was always interested and had a great sense of humor. It is sad to lose her from this earth but I am certain she is with Al and is in peace. God Bless.
