Roger G. Ward

Roger Gorden Ward, 67 of Rochester, passed away naturally at St. Marys Hospital on May 17, 2018.

Roger was born on February 27, 1951 in Lake City, MN to Loyd and Myrna (Gruhlke) Ward. At the age of eleven, his family moved to Rochester. He graduated from Mayo High School in 1969. Following high school he enlisted in the US Army and spent two years in Germany. Upon returning home, he had numerous business interests, including a share in the Alibi Inn Bar, and Associated Auto Parts. Following retirement, he enjoyed helping bar patrons get a safe ride home. Roger loved animals throughout his entire life. He will forever be remembered as the man with the pet chinchilla on his shoulder.

He is survived his wife Deb of Rochester, his children: Jennifer (Chris) Rose of Arizona, Brian Ward of Rochester, Melissa (Tommy) Gay of Oklahoma, Kevin Ward of Oregon, Kim Gustine of Rochester, three sisters, a brother, twelve grand-children, and one great-grandchild on the way.

Roger’s wish was to be cremated, and a celebration of his life will be planned for a later date.

Condolences

The family of Roger G. Ward has received the following condolences.

Debby, like others, I was shocked to read about Roger’s passing. I know how difficult that is. I’m praying for you and Jennifer please keep us posted regarding a celebration of life

So sorry for your loss. Roger was a great guy. Thoughts and prayers are with you.

At a drop of a hat you’d pick me up out back. The times we had, the things we seen and the places you took me.

You’ll forever be missed

To Deb and family, I always considered Roger to be one of my best friends and considered my self lucky to have Roger feel the same way about me. We got along great from the first day we met at Rich Olson's garage on 9th ave SE by the Southside Inn back in the early '70's. Any time I had any question about any GM product and I asked Roger, I knew I'd get an honest answer without a lot of bull mixed in. One of the best times was when we met at an auction for a guy who had more tools than Sears AND Snap On and when a rack of Snap On sockets would come up he'd just put his hand in the air until the auctioneer said "SOLD" and the Dodger would own them. It breaks my heart that I hadn't seen him for 2-3 months and never got to say good-by. I have lost a great friend, and you have lost a great person.

You have my deepest sympathies,

Connie Yust
