Robert William Kreter

Robert William Kreter, 86, passed away Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at his Rochester home with his family at his side.  He survived melanoma and lymphoma, but lost his battle with mesothelioma.

Robert was born April 18, 1928, to Emil and Mabel Kreter.  He attended Rochester Central School and was very active in sports, playing football, baseball and hockey.  He was especially noted for his pitching prowess.

Robert married Elaine Ruth Fieck on July 6, 1945 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Osage, Iowa.  He worked as a carpenter all his life and could also be found accompanying his friend, Dr. Cross on house calls.  Robert was the go-to-handyman for his relatives and even a barber.

Robert was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Rochester and used to regularly attend Bible Class.  He had a deep love of Jesus and could be found daily reading his Portals of Prayer.

He greatly enjoyed fishing, hunting and watching sports.  He will always be remembered for his smile and laughter.  He was known affectionately as “Buff” & “The Best Dad We Ever Saw” by his loved ones.

Robert is survived by his wife Elaine, and sons Charlie Kreter and David (Renee) Kreter.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Garfield and Paul Kreter and his sister Mildred Lubahn.

The funeral will be held Saturday, June 28th at 11am in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home, Rochester, with Pastor Joel Haak officiating.  Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Gardens.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

The family wishes to thank the Seasons Hospice Nurses for their care.

Condolences

The family of Robert William Kreter has received the following condolences.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you Elaine, Chuck, David and Renee.  It always was a joy to visit with Buff.  Last year when Shirley and I came by to visit we had such fun looking at pictures on the iPad, sharing stories and just spending time together.  We will fondly remember Buff's laughter and the joy he found in family and friends.

I extend my family's deepest sympathy to Elaine and her family.  Every time I came to Rochester, I always enjoyed visiting Buff.  I wish there were a machine to measure the number of laughs and smiles per hour.  I doubt it could have kept up with Buff.  You were so blessed by him, and he was so blessed by all of you.  Now he is in Jesus' care, where pain are suffering are no more.  You will all one day see him again.  May God strengthen you in this difficult time.
