Robert L. Scanlan

The funeral Mass for Robert LeRoy Scanlan will be at 10:30AM Saturday, October, 17 at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church, with the Rev. Paul Nelson officiating.  Mr. Scanlan was a member of St. Pius Catholic Church, but due to construction the service is being held at St. Bridget’s in rural Simpson.  Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Lanesboro.

Mr. Scanlan, 81, of Rochester, died following a short illness on October 14 in Rochester.  He was born on December 24, 1927 in Aberdeen, SD.  He later moved to Lanesboro and married Wilda R. Pierce on September 16, 1948 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.  They moved to Rochester in 1969, where Robert held many different jobs. Mrs. Scanlan died on August 23, 2004.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.  Survivors include his children, Roberta (Ronald) Broadwater of Rochester, Dennis (Carol) Scanlon of Rochester, Tasa (Scott) Deden of Rochester, Tonia (Britt) Fix of Chatfield and Teresa (Steve) Krause of Rochester; sisters Lucretia LaFavor of Winona and Rozella (Boris) Ochry of Detroit Lakes; 10 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.

Robert was a past Worthy President of the Eagles, where he was a member since 1973.  He received the Directors Award for Outstanding Dedication in 1998 for his work with the Eagles Cancer Telethon.  Robert was also a member of the American Legion Post 92 for 45 years, and the Korean War Veteran Club.

Friends may call Friday, October 16, from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Macken Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church.
