Robert E. Salley

Robert Salley, 90, of Rochester, passed away Monday, January 28 at The Waters on Mayowood.

Robert was born October 13, 1928 to Clare and Martha (Prigge) Salley. He grew up on the family farm north of Rochester. Robert attended rural schools and graduated from Rochester High School now known as John Marshall High School. He then went to the University of Minnesota to study horticulture.

Robert married Phyllis Joan Ayshford on June 19, 1949 in Rochester. After Robert’s father passed away in 1962, he and Phyllis bought the family farm. Phyllis passed away in January 22, 1993. Robert worked as a farmer, insurance agent, and installed flooring.

On October 23, 1994, Robert married LaVonne M (Kundert) Riess.

He is survived by his wife, LaVonne; daughter, Trista (Ken) Blazing; son, Rob (Lynn) Salley; grandchildren, Erik (Anya) Blazing and Nicole Salley; and great-granddaughter, Alina Blazing. He is also survived by five step sons, Jeff (Betty) Riess, Dan (Tracey) Riess, Scott (Sarah) Riess, Chad (Jen) Riess, and Jason Riess; 13 step grandchildren; 7 step great-grandchildren; his brother, Maynard (Winifred) Salley; and sister-in-law, Rosella Salley.

He is preceded in death by his parents and first wife, Phyllis. As well as his infant sister, Delores; and brother, Clarence.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Seasons Hospice, Redeemer Lutheran Church, or Mayo Alzheimer’s Research.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 4, 2019 at Redeemer Lutheran Church with Rev. Adam Koglin officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. the day of the service at the church. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

It was my honor to know Bob in the last years of his life.  He was a true gentleman.  I wish I had known him in his younger years.  Sincere condolences to LaVonne and family. 

We are sorry to hear of Bob’s passing. We are in Puerto Vallarta Mexico till February 16 or we would be at his funeral on Monday. Please accept our heartfelt sympathies on the loss of you loved one.
