Robert E. Block

Robert E. Block
December 21, 1934 – August 27, 2025

Robert “Rob” E. Block, 90, of Eyota, MN, passed away on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, surrounded by his wife and loving family.

Born in Lewiston, MN, to Bernhardt (Ben) and Amanda Block, Rob grew up in Utica, MN, and graduated from St. Charles High School. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force with his identical twin brother, Elmer (deceased), spending most of his enlistment in Germany.

After his service, Rob met the love of his life, Arlene (McCready), at a dance in Altura, MN. They shared 65 years of marriage built on devotion, family, and faith. Rob worked at IBM in Rochester, MN, while also farming his own 80 acres near Eyota, MN. After retirement, he “put all of his problems behind him” and happily attended the grounds and drove school bus for the Dover/Eyota School District.

Rob was a certified commercial pilot who loved flying his Taylor Craft airplane, and later, he hand-built and flew R.C. model planes with his local club. He was also a faithful member of Bethel Lutheran Church, Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA), and the Eyota American Legion.

He is survived by his wife Arlene; son Gregory (Shelly) Block and their sons Cody (Kelsey) Block and Dalton Block; daughter Kemlyn (Tommy) Block-Stockstill and their children Zachary Stockstill and Kashlyn (Dalton) Russeau; siblings Ernest “Ted” Block and Margaret “Margie” Schumann.

He is preceded in death by his parents and six siblings: Martha Perry, Albert Block, Elsie Heim, Minnie Wright, Mildred “Millie” Richter, Elmer Block.

Rob will be remembered for his gentle nature, love of family, and the joy and laughter he brought to all who knew him.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, September 12, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Macken Funeral Home in Rochester, MN, with a light lunch to follow the service.

Condolences

The family of Robert E. Block has received the following condolences.

I just found out that Robbie had passed recently. I was friends with his wife and spent many visits to their home in the 60's or 70's.  Arlene and I worked together. Robbie was such a gentle and kind sole. Robbie was one of those guys that wore the "white hat". Arlene and family.... I am so very sorry to learn that Robbie's later years were not kind to him. Praise GOD for the blessings we've been given in life and for the friendships that span many years.

Arlene and family,

My deepest sympathies for your loss of Robert. I do not know if you remember me but I know we did spend sometime with our husbands during our acquaintance. Thinking and praying for you during this difficult time.

Pat and Bob Swanson.

So sorry to hear that Robert has passed away. His sister Martha married my uncle Chalmer Perry. I remember that the Block family lived across the road from my grandma and grandpa Perry. I also remember seeing them a lot at school. He is now in the arms of our Lord Jesus Christ. May he rest in peace.
