Robert Allen Tilford

Robert Allen Tilford, 74 of Zumbro Falls, MN died Sunday, October 10, 2021 at home surrounded by family.

Bob was born November 1, 1946 in Rochester, MN to Alvin and Margaret (Cochran) Tilford. He graduated from John Marshall High School in 1964. On March 9, 1965, he enlisted in the US Air Force as a Medic. He married Donna Jean Knutson on August 26, 1967. Shortly after the wedding, he was stationed at Ankara, Turkey, the birthplace of their son Chad. Bob and Donna moved to the Mazeppa area after his honorable discharge in 1969. They made this their permanent home. Bob was a cement finisher by trade, and had a variety of hobbies and interests. He was a skilled craftsman, storyteller, joker and poet. He enjoyed tinkering with things, loved trivia, and had a thirst for knowledge of all kinds. He especially loved reading books. He was deeply involved in the Boy Scouts of America and was proud to have achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in June of 1962. He spent several years creating and caring for his own private nine-hole golf course “The Back 9” and of course playing the game. He also had many pets over the years that he loved and cherished very deeply.

Bob is survived by his wife Donna of Zumbro Falls, his son Chad (Bonnie Redman) of Mazeppa, his daughter Allison of Zumbro Falls, his grandson Cody Ayala (Sarah Clayton) and great-granddaughter Annabelle also of Zumbro Falls, his sister Virginia “Ginny” (Jim) Biwer of Kasson, MN and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are his two dogs, Ghost and Blu.

He is preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and five brothers.

A Memorial Gathering of family and friends will be held from 11:00AM until 1:00PM on Saturday, October 16, 2021 in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Grove Union Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by Pine Island American Legion Post 184.
