Rita Mae Lukes

Rita Lukes, 76, of Rochester, MN, passed away Monday, May 6, 2019 at her home of natural causes.

Rita Mae Swestka was born on May 17, 1942 to John and Marcella Swestka in Cresco, Iowa. She graduated from Rudolphinum High School, Protivin, Iowa. Rita was a retired bookkeeper.  Since retirement, Rita was active in the Rochester Eagles Club and Past President of the Eagles Auxiliary. She volunteered 35 years at the Eagles Cancer Telethon and was the treasurer of their homeowner’s association. Rita enjoyed watching all sports and especially cheering on the Minnesota teams until the end of the games. She enjoyed playing cards with friends/family and was an amazing cook. Her greatest joy of all was spending time with family and friends; putting the needs of others before herself.

Rita is survived by her husband of 57 years, Virgil; three children, Doreen (Dennis) Dieser, Dean Lukes and Carol Gorman; her siblings, Donna (Jim) Townsend, Art (Wanda) Swestka, Cheryl (Ron) Jensen, Ron (Joyce) Swestka, John Jr, (Joanie) Swestka, Gary (Roberta) Swestka; six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Mary.

Funeral Mass will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, May 10, 2019 at St. Pius X Catholic Church with Rev. Russell Scepaniak officiating. Visitations will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2019 in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home, 1105 12th Street SE, Rochester, MN and one hour prior to the funeral Mass. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

She will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends.

So sorry to hear about Rita's passing. Offering our condolences to the family. She was a beautiful elegant lady, always had a smile & a helping hand. Remember being a bridesmaid for their wedding. A happy couple they were. Sending our thoughts & prayers. She will be missed & much loved.

We hope Rita's family is doing all right. We enjoyed being around Rita very much and will especially miss her happiness and her "snort" when Mark made her laugh. We loved spending time with Rita at the Eagles and will miss her.

Our sympathy to the family.  We have known Rita and Virgil for a long time.  I used to work with them at TCS.  Have a lot of great memories of them.  May the Lord comfort you all and bring you peace.  From Fred and Marilyn Crossfield

Virgil, we are so sad to hear about Rita. She was such a wonderful woman, we have many fond memories. So glad we were able to get together a couple weeks ago. We will always treasure that time. Wishing you peace and strength.

I am so sorry to hear about Rita's passing.  She was always helping out at the Eagles - I miss her handing out the bingo cards.  We always joked about me being in her way, and she was on a mission to get them to everyone playing bingo.

Our sincerest condolences to Virgil and her family.
