Rita Jean Salmon
The Memorial Mass for Rita Salmon, 72, who died suddenly on Tuesday, April 13, at St. Mary’s Hospital, will be held at Resurrection Catholic Church. We invite family and friends to celebrate her life at Resurrection Catholic Church on Friday, April 16th from 1:00pm – 2:30pm, followed by a Memorial Mass beginning at 2:30pm at the church.
Rita was the daughter of Russell Alvin Walter and Jean Haills Bach. She was a graduate of the Rochester High School Class of 1955 followed by the Methodist-Kahler School of Nursing in 1958. Rita worked as a Registered Nurse at Mayo Medical Center for 25 years, retiring in 1994. She volunteered as a library aide for the Rochester Public Library from 1995-2000. She also volunteered at Quarry Hill Nature Center, Girl and Boy Scouts, Rochester Senior Center, Child Care and Resource Center and Church of the Resurrection. She participated in many area activities that involved her favorite hobbies of quilting, reading and travel. Rita accomplished her life-long goal of visiting all 50 United States in 2010.
Rita never stopped thinking about how to bless other people and made it her priority to serve her family and community. She will leave behind a legacy of thoughtful caring in many social circles around Rochester where she invested her whole life.
She is survived by her mother, Jean Walter, Rochester, MN; a brother, Ronald Walter, Olympia, WA; a sister, Dixie Blowers, Queen Creek, AZ; children; David Salmon, Wasilla, AK; Colleen Salmon, Arden Hills, MN; Michael Salmon, Camden, ME; Thomas Salmon, Rochester, MN; Former husband, Maurice Salmon, Rochester, MN; grandchildren; Miranda Salmon, Portland, OR; Johanna, Erik and Darby Salmon of Alaska, and Ryan and Brandon Salmon of Rochester, MN.
