Rick S. Bowron
Rick S. Bowron, a longtime Rochester resident, was born on March 18, 1947 to Vincent and Dorothy (Baker) Bowron. He died Saturday, August 8th at age 62 of natural causes.
Rick is survived by his children, Christopher (Stephanie) Bowron of Rochester, Anne (Ryan) Pietranton of Las Vegas, NV and Jennifer Bowron of Hollywood, CA; grandchildren, Emily and Nicholas; mother, Dorothy; siblings, Kimm (Scott) and David as well as a large extended family. He was preceded in death by his father, Vincent “Red” and his brothers Danny and Tim.
Born and raised in Rochester, MN, he attended St. Johns and St. Francis Elementary schools. He graduated from John Marshall High School in 1966. During his years at John Marshall he was a part of multiple championship athletic teams. His love of sports continued after high school. He coached and played on various hockey, basketball, and softball teams, some of which were sponsored by the North Star Bar and Johnny’s Saloon. He also competed with several All-star teams and was an avid sports fan and trivia enthusiast. In addition he enjoyed family, playing with his grandchildren, music, classic cars, flowers, motorcycles, and ice cream.
After high school, he served in the Army and completed two tours of duty as an Airborne Ranger. During his tours, his decorations included a Combat Infantryman Badge, a Bronze Star for Valor, an Air Medal and a Vietnam Service Medal. Upon return, he married Alice Flood on February 14, 1976. They had three children and resided in Oronoco, MN. They later divorced.
He was employed throughout Rochester, including many years at Sand and Gravel and later as an owner/operator truck driver. A recent highlight was a relief trip he took to New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina.
The Memorial Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday August 15, at St. Francis Catholic Church, with Father Charlie Collins officiating. Burial will follow the service at Calvary Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, August 14, at Macken Funeral Home, with a Rosary at 7:30 p.m. There will also be a visitation one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.
