Richard Lewis Hexum
Richard Lewis Hexum Sr, of Rochester, passed away Wednesday, May 17th at St. Marys Hospital surrounded by Family.
Dick was born on August 22, 1928 in Rochester, MN to Lewis and Esther (Schuck) Hexum at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, MN. He graduated from Rochester High School in 1946 and from Rochester Junior College in 1948.
On March 6, 1950, he married Beverly C. Knocke in Rochester MN; where they lived and raised their family. Dick was a founder of RL Hexum and Associates Inc, The Hexum Companies Real Estate Development, Sales and Leasing. Dick was past President of the Minnesota State Association of Realtors, National Director for The Minnesota State Association of Realtors, President of Rochester Area Builders, Hall of Fame — Exchange Club, Presidents Club, — University of Minnesota. Member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.
His passions were many, but none equaled his love for helping build a better Rochester and Mayo Clinic. By doing so, he was given the opportunity to touch so many others lives in a meaningful way. He always said, “legacy was the last person he helped — not the last building he built.”
Dick is survived by his wife, Bev, of 67 years; two sons, Richard L. Hexum Jr. (Kathryn Augst) of Hayward WI, and Thomas M Hexum (Barbara Pappas) of Rochester, MN; grandchildren, Anne (Derek) Kuehl, Ryan (Crystal) Hexum, Adam Hexum, Christina Hexum, Abigail Hexum, Charles Hexum; great-grandchildren, Brianna, Griffin, Lilly, Madeline, Elliot, Leisel, Ingrid; brother, Les (Barb Brooks) Hexum of Deephaven, MN; and niece, Stacey Lundberg, Jeff (Jodi) Hexum, Matt (Tammy) Hexum, and Marc (Kerri) Hexum. Dick was preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like memorials to Osman Children’s Hospital, 2025 East River Parkway Minneapolis, MN 55414, or Rochester Exchange Club.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM on Thursday, May 25th at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church Rochester, MN. Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 24th from 5PM to 7PM in River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Luncheon will be served after.

Condolences
The family of Richard Lewis Hexum has received the following condolences.
Bev, Rick and family,
i am sorry to hear of Dick's death. He was an accomplished, engaging person. I was deeply appreciative of what a fine friend he was for my Dad when he moved to Homestead. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers, and I hope you always cherish the great memories of this fine man.
I had the privilege and honor to meet Richard while he was recovering at Samaritan Bethany many years ago... I am very saddened by the news of his passing. His smile and charisma is something that will live on. My very deepest condolences... Adam Turnbull
To the Hexum family-
I have never met Richard but have heard about him through Marie whom I work with. Often times we lose sight of what's important in life. I have found that seeking wisdom from lives that have seen so much brings solace in this crazy confusing world. We must never forget those who help, give, and teach. Those people are the legacy that create a better world. I encourage all who read this to seek the helpers, givers, and teachers in this world. They may be 1 year old or 101 years old, it's never too late to be inspired or inspire others. Marie's love for the Hexum family shined through in her dedication to his life's lessons. I hope someday I find someone who can be my grandpa here on earth while my grandpas rest in heaven. The best real estate is found in the company of another's heart! Love to you all and my condolences.
I was lucky to sit and talk with Dick for a little while a few weeks ago. As you would expect, the topics covered absolutely everything except his own situation. He was constantly monitoring what was going on with my Dad and his other friends. He told me stories about my Grandfather that I had never heard. Talked about his beloved family. But nothing more than a fleeting moment spent on personal concern. His generosity of spirit and interest in others is such an inspiration. He set the benchmark of friendship at the highest level. And Mr. Hexum put the Class in the Class of '46.
Sending thoughts and prayers to the Hexum family. Our Rochester Exchange Club will not be the same without Dick. He truly loved Exchange and was committed to the success of our club and projects. When I was president of our club last year I so appreciated his advice and support. He always told me I was doing a good job and that meant a lot to me.
Rest in peace Dick.

My sincerest sympathy to the Hexum family. Dick was a passionate and energetic person who touched many. Rest in Peace...
Tom and Family,
I'm sorry to hear of the passing of Dick. I have fond memories of working with him back in my time with McGhie and Betts. I was able to re-connect with him about a year ago for a potential project at The Homestead. I had lunch with him and his buddies and really had a good time visiting. He was so passionate and charismatic, just as I remembered him.
