Richard L. Lichty

The funeral service for Richard L. Lichty will be at 11:00am on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at Evangel United Methodist Church in Rochester with Pastor Mark Rader and Pastor Susie O’Connell officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the American Legion Post 92. The visitation will be from 10:00am until the time of the service at the church on Tuesday.

Richard L. Lichty, 72, of Rochester passed away on Tuesday, September 12th at Rochester East Nursing Home.

Richard Lynn Lichty was born on November 14, 1944 to Russell and Bernice (Mensink) Lichty in Lime Springs, Iowa. He attended Country School at the Red School by Cherry Grove, and then attended Preston Public School. During his years in Preston, Richard enjoyed FFA and also being in 4-H. Richard graduated from Preston High School in 1963, and then attended Austin Vocational School for auto mechanics. Richard was drafted into the Army in August of 1965 and served until August of 1967 maintaining helicopters. Richard was always very proud of being a veteran. He then worked at an auto body shop and did delivery work for plumbing and electrical companies.

On October 2, 1971, Richard was united in marriage to Barbara Boberg and they farmed in the Rochester area. Richard later drove van for a care center, retiring in 2009.

Richard enjoyed raising vegetables in his greenhouse, hunting, fishing, and was an avid Vikings fan.

Richard leaves to mourn his departure, his wife, Barbara of Rochester; his sister, Janice (James) Earley of Fountain; his brother, Lyndon (Cynthia) Lichty of Westby, Wisconsin. He is also survived by two nephews, James (Rachel) Earley of Wykoff and Steven (Dori) Lichty of Beaver Dam, WI; and two nieces, Julene (Steven) Vrieze of Hanover, MN and Stacy (Chad) Bohn of Litchfield, MN. Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Bernice Lichty.
