Condolences

The family of Richard J. Weiland, Ph.D. has received the following condolences.

I was fortunate to have had Mr Weiland as a theatre professor (CST).  His insights and imagination never ceased to amaze me.  The life lessons provided by him, Eileen Whalen, Chuck Pascoe and Bob Knudson enriched my life.  And now he begins his next production…

“To die, to sleep;
To sleep: perchance to dream: ay, there's the rub;
For in that sleep of death what dreams may come
When we have shuffled off this mortal coil,
Must give us pause: there's the respect
That makes calamity of so long life.”
(Hamlet, Act III, Scene I, Line 77)

We are so sorry for your loss! We are so honored to have met Richard and his lovely wife,  at  our daughter, Penny, and Cole's wedding! What a kind and friendly man, and beautiful family! We hope that the precious memories you hold of him,  will help you through this difficult time! Blessings from John and Char Haug

our hearts are broken… he is in heaven watching over us. We love you all!

I am so sorry for the loss of your patriarch.  He was such a wonderful man, kind and caring.  The world has lost a great soul.  My heart goes out to the whole family.  My deepest sympathies.

My condolences to the Weiland family during this time of mourning,

Grandpa Dick was a true gentleman and a scholar.  He brought a bounty of good into this world and was always willing to take the time to educate.  My fondest memories are of listening to his jokes, playing chess and having wonderful family dinners together.  He will be sorely missed.

Jesse, Brydee, Kai & Ruby White

We are so sad to hear of Richard's passing.  We always looked forward to seeing your beautiful family at Pax Christi.  The love and respect you had for your husband and Dad spoke volumes to us.  We hold you in our hearts and will continue to keep you in our prayers.

Richard Weiland was an extraordinary educator and human being. The greatest method of teaching was his well lived life. Like many CST Alumna, I am so grateful to have known him. May you feel the love surrounding you at this time.

mary jane and family.  sorry for your loss.  dick and i were roommates at st marys and dick was a groomsman at our wedding.

The Dieterman family sends it's condolences to the Weiland family. Sorry for your loss. I remember the old house on Heights blvd.. Didn't it have like a red or purple like front door?

On behalf of the Byron Family, Waseca,MN and the Rockers Family, Austin, MN we extend our condolences to Richard's family.

He was held in high regard as he guided family members through their college years.

May the saints in Heaven rejoice upon his arrival.

Dr. Weiland was a great man!  I served with him at the College of St. Teresa, Winona, MN. in the early Seventies.  We called him, Dick, and

so appreciated his talent as a drama director and teacher.  He was a gifted director of comedy, and had a sense of play and timing in his

productions.  Dick was a master in directing Moliere's plays.

As a husband, father, grandfather, etc., Dick loved his family and delighted in seeing the next generations thrive in chosen careers.

I can picture Dick with the theatre masters of the past discussing, laughing, and questioning God's talented theatrical directors and

actors/actresses.  May he know the fullness of God's love in being totally transformed as a beloved son of our Triune God.

Blessings and prayers for his entire family, especially his beloved wife, Mary Jane.

Briana McCarthy, OSF

I knew Dick when he was in administration at CST.  Of course, I called him Dr. Weiland!  After graduating from CST, I taught at St. Mary's Parish School,as Miss Salmon in 5th and 6th grades.  I got to know most of the children, yes, Dan, you especially!     Dick was a wonderful person, always personable to everyone.  The family was active in the parish.  I loved it when they sang together.  Great memories of a leader and his family.  May he rest in peace.

Tom and I send sympathy to the Weiland family at this time.

We met this gifted and impressive family a "few" years ago at Maureen ad Dan's wedding. Continued the relationship during teaching years with Maureen at St. Pius School.

We join with other family and friends offering support and love. Hope to join you in praise and prayer livestream.

My condolences to yoy and your family during this time of loss. My prayers are with you.

My deepest condolences on your loss.

Dick was a wise and kind man who made an outsized impact on the IWMF (International Waldenstrom's Macroglobulinemia Foundation.) He was responsible for much of the funding raising infrastructure for the IWMF and convinced the Board to make the critical hire of Dave Benson, our first professional fundraiser. That action forever changed fundraising at the IWMF for the better. Dick also had the less dubious distinction of recruiting me to the IWMF Board.

Much of our fundraising success over the past years can be attributed to Dick. I’ll be donating to the IWMF in his memory and will always remember him for both his kindness and his wisdom.

Carl Harrington

Former IWMF President & CEO and Chair of the IWMF Board of Trustees Emeritus

Weiland family,

We are so sorry to hear about Uncle Dick! From what I remember, he was wonderful husband and father. I remember the shows that your family performed during family reunions. I’m sure he was very proud of all of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Wish we could be there to celebrate his life with you! Sending you our love and prayers! Ann

It was our family's great pleasure to be neighbors of the Wieland's when we moved to Winona in 1980. Theatre in Winona was blessed with Dick's expertise as well as with the whole family's talents. Also among his many talents, Dick made a great martini.

Our deepest sympathies to Mary Jane and the family.
