Richard J Streit

Richard John Streit, age 82, of Rochester, MN, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at Cottagewood Senior Communities.

Rich was born on April 6, 1943, in St. Cloud, MN, to William and Anna (Fischer) Streit. He graduated from Cathedral High School in 1961 and went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Hospital Pharmacy from the University of Minnesota School of Pharmacy in 1969, where he was a member of the Rho Chi Honor Society for Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Kappa Psi. On June 29, 1968, he married Mary Margaret Ernst at St. Michael’s On The Hill Church in West St. Paul, MN.

In 1969, Rich began his pharmacy career at the Indian Health Hospital in Cass Lake, MN. He later worked at the University of Iowa before settling in Rochester, MN, in 1975. There, he spent the remainder of his career in various pharmacy roles at St. Marys Hospital and the Mayo Clinic, retiring in 2005.

Rich will be remembered for his quick wit and sharp intelligence, and also as a kind and gentle man who brought warmth and calm to those around him. He had many interests and hobbies, including woodworking, golf, bowling, fishing, bird watching, genealogy, and making both wine and toffee.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Mary; his children, James (Jody) of Clearwater, Jennifer (Brent) of Andover, and Kristen of St. Paul; four grandchildren, Tyler, Rachael, Sophia, and Edward; and one great-grandchild, Wesley. He is also survived by his brother, Bill (Cathy) of Circle Pines, and sister, Jane Hoffman of Sartell.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister and brother, Eileen Conrad and Wilfrid “Fred” Streit.

Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers to the Lewy Body Dementia Association, the Parkinson’s Foundation, or the Poverello Foundation.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Cottagewood Senior Communities for the compassionate care they provided to Rich during his final year.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 11, 2025, at Church of the Resurrection Catholic Church in Rochester with visitation one hour prior to the service.

The family of Richard J Streit has received the following condolences.

So Sorry for your Loss of a Loved One.

Rich had joined us many years in a Lenten Bible Study at Resurrection. We enjoyed his input during our discussion on different topics.

I was in Fulda Mn at my Brother Gene’s Funeral that same day.

God Bless you All

Rich hired into my Pharmacy leadership position at Saint Marys Hospital and he was a key mentor and role model for me as I was starting my career in Pharmacy/Healthcare leadership.   We worked on many projects together and he maintained a positive friendly working environment for his leadership team both at work and at our social gatherings. Many good memories and I was always happy to catch up with him during his years of volunteering at Saint Marys.. I greatly appreciate the opportunity that he provided to me and his continued interest in my career.    I regret that I will not be able to attend his funeral service due to previous commitments.

Rich was indeed a kind colleague to all during his hospital career, always willing to serve others and improve services for patients. Peace.

Mary and family,

I’m so very sorry to hear of Rich’s passing. Please know all of you are in my thoughts and my prayers.

With love,

Linda Zinser

Dear Streit Family,

I want to extend my condolences to you at the passing of Rick. He was a trustee at Resurrection when i was Pastor. He was kind, quick witted and sharp. He had a care for his parish and for every priest that came through the door. I am sorry he struggled in these last years and I hope he is gathered around the Table of God's Children in heaven.

I remember when he wrote me a note after I came back from an extended medical leave and he said that he would never take for granted the presence of his parish priest. I was touched. May the Angel of Consolation, who strengthened Jesus in the Garden during his Agony, walk with you these days going forward. And may perpetual Light shine upon him.

Sincerely,

Father Kevin Connolly

My sincere expression of sympathy to all of Rich’s family.  I was a nurse at St. Mary’s and crossed paths with Rich on many occasions. He was a kind man and always willing to help out.  Take care and know the peace that comes with our eternal home.
