Richard “Dick” Ernest Horeck

Richard “Dick” Ernest Horeck, 89 of Rochester, passed away on February 13, 2011 at Season’s Hospice.

Richard was born on November 7, 1921 in Minneapolis, to Max and Clara Horeck. Dick attended Rochester High School and later married Virginia Eckholdt in Little Rock, AR. He was drafted into the US Army, and served during WWII, entering Normandy on the 6th day of the invasion, and later went on to fight in the Battle of the Bulge, where he lost his identical twin brother Robert. He returned to Rochester, and worked at Red Star Yeast up until his retirement. Dick was a lifelong golfer, and he and his identical twin brother Robert were accomplished high school gymnasts.

He is survived by his children, Robert (Cheryl) Horeck of Minneapolis, Julie (Jim) Anderson of Waterville, MN, Steve (Kathy) Horeck of Winona, and Wendy (Willis) Dey of Oshkosh, WI., twelve grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren, and a sister, Gladys Cotton of Rochester.

He is preceded in death by his wife, a twin brother, and three sisters.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00AM on Friday, February 18, 2011 at the new River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at River Park Chapel. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
