Peter Michael Stellpflug
On Tuesday, October 25, 2011, Peter Michael Stellpflug died doing what he loved: driving his tractor for fall fieldwork. Pete will be greatly missed by his family, church, community, and by all who had the opportunity to know him and his vibrant personality.
Above all else, Pete loved his family. Pete married the love of his life, Tammy Kuisle, on July 7, 1990. Pete loved being involved in all activities with his children, Timothy (age 17), Matthew (age 14), Annastasia (age 11), and Mikayla (age 9).
Pete was born on October 9, 1961 to Paul and Eleanor Stellpflug of Rochester. As he grew up on his family farm, Pete developed his passion for agriculture. His brother Jim (Mary Kay) Stellpflug continues to operate the third-generation farm. Other siblings include Dave (Lois) Stellpflug of Eau Claire, WI., Cathy (Craig) Reiter of Elgin, MN, and Julie (Matt) Borst of Rochester, MN. Pete has many nieces and nephews that he loved, advised, and supported : Paul, Sarah, and Charles Stellpflug, Rory and Ryan Hayden, Krystal and Megan Stellpflug; Tom, Holly, Laura, Brenda, and Steve Reiter; Kevin, Jeff, Kyle, Jake, and Luke Borst.
Pete Stellpflug graduated from Lourdes High School in 1980. He earned a degree in Agricultural Business from the University of Wisconsin River Falls and went on to the Graduate School of Banking in Madison, Wisconsin. Pete has shared his business expertise with several financial institutions including Citizens Bank and Trust in Hutchinson, MN and most recently as Branch Manager for Eastwood Bank of Eyota for the past 19 years.
Pete was the “go-to-guy” in his family, his community, and any organization that he touched. He always seemed to know everyone and always had something to say. His presence, common sense, and clear vision was appreciated by all. Pete relished community service and was always ready to lend a hand. Pete was passionate about his Catholic faith and was an active member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Eyota, MN. Pete was a lifelong 4-H member as a youth and adult leader. Pete was a strong leader in many other organizations throughout the community.
A Funeral Mass for Peter will be held at 11:00AM on October 31, 2011 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with the Rev. Kurt Farrell of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church of Eyota, and co-officiated with Rev. Mark C. McNea and Rev. Timothy T. Reker. Visitation will be held from 2:00pm to 6:00pm on Sunday, October 30, 2011 at the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home and one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the Peter Stellpflug Memorial Community Fund has been established and donations are accepted at any Eastwood Bank locations.

The family of Peter Michael Stellpflug has received the following condolences.
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Peter was a great person both professionally & personally. I wish I was in the area to attend the funeral.

On behalf of the Minnesota Bankers Association, we send our deepenst and heartfult condolences to Pete's family. Pete was active with the MBA on the Ag Committee and had a clear passion for agriculture, rural communities, and farm families. He will be dearly missed at the MBA. Pete always had a smile and an easy going style. He was one of a kind. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.
Hi there, Tammy, Tim, Matt, Anna, and Mikayla...
Some folks leave holes in out lives when they leave us, but Pete left one huge CRATER, with at least a fifty mile radius, whose center is a mile or two north of our farm... Pete was unique, a hero, a role model for everyone whose life he touched. Our sympathies are with you. As so many of us have said, please let us know if there is ANYTHING you need to help you move on from here...
Love and hugs,
Nancy, Steve, Heidi, Marcus, and Katrina
Just want to send my deepest Sympathy to Pete's family. I worked with Pete at Eastwood Bank in St. Charles for a couple years. He is always fun to be around. Never a dull moment with Pete in the room, he makes ordinary days a whole lot more fun. He had my name for Secret Santa one year, and I couldn't believe he picked out a bunch of snowman stuff; I doubt whether he knew I liked snowman stuff, but he really got it right. And this summer we were in the same "Stress for Success" class and were partners; as usual, he made that class a whole lot of fun.
I am so very sorry for your loss! I will pray for you all, for your healing to begin, even if just a little each and every day. Do know he isn't that far away, and if you want to talk to him, just talk, he hears you every time you need him. He is watching over you now, always. You all take care of each other and God Bless.
Our thoughts and prayers will be with you during this difficult time~
Karen, Kevin, Nikki, & Kyle Fieseler
Our deepest sympathy on the loss of Pete. Life must go on, but it won't be the same. May God keep you close and bless you always in the days ahead.
Cathy and family,
I am so sorry for the loss of your brother Cathy. May the memories you carry with you see you through this difficult time. Thinking about you and sending love your way.

Tammy, everyone says behind every good man stands one great woman, and Pete would be the first to agree! He is so proud of you and your beautiful children.
May God's endless love, through Pete's heavenly spirit, give you and your family the strength to continue as vibrantly as he did.
I am sorry for your loss. Pete was a great person that had a impact on many people. Being my religion teacher he helped teach many great life lessons that I am very grateful for that. He was someone I could always ask for some advice from every time I walked into the bank. He will be truly missed by all.
Kyle Wegner

To the stellpfug family, I am deeply sorry for your loss. Pete was a friend in High School. When I think of those times, Pete always had that big smile on his face. May God bless you Pete Stellpflug, and may God watch over your family.
To the Family of Pete,
I am so sorry to hear of Pete's untimely accident and loss. I recall many banker meeting when Pete would kind of inject his own sense of humor and fun to any meeting we may have had. Everyone enjoyed his stories and certainly apprecated all the help he gave on committees or arranging meetings. Even though we worked at "competative banks" and later as a source for me of busness, we shared tales and experiences that helped us both to do our best. I am sure some how, he will continue to provide us all with motivation and direction as we remember him.
My deepest sympathy on his passing.
Bob Nelsen
Our family is deeply saddened by the passing of Pete. Our prayers got out to your family. Pete has touched all our lives in a very positive way. He always had a way to make everyone feel welcome and like we were great buddies. I asked Alex what he will miss the most about Pete. He said the way he always made Alex feel like a son. That was Peter, a friend, fair, positive outlook on life and always welcoming. And oh yeah a great sense of humor. He always had something to say about every topic. We will never forget Peter. I just hope that I can be half the person that Peter was. We love you Peter!
Thank you Pete, for the opportunity of knowing you!
I'm so deeply sorry for the loss of your son, Pete. I know you will find comfort in your faith and in your family and friends and the St. Francis of Assisi community. God love you and be with you and may God's light shine upon you and yours.
May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God rest in peace. AMEN.
Love and prayers,
Judy Syring
Such a sad happening. Pete was a great guy and always a big hug and hi when we would see him. Tammy, Paul, Eleanor, Jim, Mary, Dave, Cathy, Craig, Julie, Matt and all the nieces and nephews we know how your hearts are aching and are thoughts and prayers are with you. Pete always treated us with great respect and called us Mr. and Mrs. Black. He and Nancy both will be watching over us now.
My heart ached when I heard of Pete's death. I considered him not only a fellow banker, but foremost a friend. Although sudden, and a short life, I believe Pete lived it well with his shared talents, humbleness, and bright personality. His devotion and mission in life was clear in that he loved hmself through his creator, and was able and very willing to share his gifts with his family and community, knowing that God was first, others second and himself third. Thank you Pete for sharing yourself with me. Your inspiration has left an impact. Your next journey will be a just reward for what you have built here on earth. You have been blessed by Pete, with my my condolences to Tammy, Tim, Matt, Anna, and Mikayla, as well as all other family members and friends.
Tammy and kids, we are so sorry to hear about Pete, you are in our thoughts and prayers in the hard days of grieving that you have ahead of you as a family. Stay strong and reach out to each other.. Tammy you know that there is always a Kuisle around the corner to help you out as are the Stellpflugs. Rest in the arms of people that love you! I am sending you all hugs! Eileen and Gary Hartog
To all the Stellpflugs,

Dear Tammy, Tim, Matt, Anna, Kayla and the entire Stellpflug extended family members:
Our prayers and heart-felt condolences go out to all of you.
Peter was truly kind without being pretentious, intelligent without talking down to anyone, and humorous without being profane. Most definately, Peter was one of the best liked from our class at Lourdes and always a gracious host at our reunions after graduation.
Peter will be dearly missed by so many, yet he will remain in all of our hearts and minds forever.
Thanks for all the laughs, Peter.
Patrick Reitemeier and Diane Nordquist

Tammy,
I send you my sincere sympathy. I can't think of anything that isn't trite. Please know you are in my heart and prayers.
Carol Dunn
Pete was an amazing guy, everybody will love and miss him. And to hte Stellpflug family now is the time for you to be weak as the rest of the communtiy is staying strong for you. Everybody loves and cares about all of you. We are all here for support.
Peter is my cousin and although I didn't see him often, he had a great impact on my life. I am five years younger than him, but I have wonderful memories of him being so much stronger and older when I used to visit his family in Minnesota when I was a kid. He was always kind to me when I felt so awkward and he helped me feel good about myself. I have always carried a piece of that around with me. The last time I saw Peter was camping up in the Adirondack mountains a few years ago. He was still the same wonderful person I remembered. I send my condolences to Tammy and all the Stellpflug family. Love Mary Stellpflug (Len Stellpflugs youngest)

The world will never be the same, but I believe we are all better people for having Pete in our lives. He was such a positive influence and role model in so many ways, I just can't even begin...
Tammy--several years ago you gave me some of the BEST advice ever, and I follow it still to this day. Others want to love you right now, they want to help. Let them. It may be something big, or small, or silly, or just something you don't want to deal with. There is a whole community of love here for you and the kids. You can call me ANYTIME, day or night, for ANY reason.
Keeping all of you in our prayers, in our thoughts, and in our hearts. May the presence of God and the love of family and friends bring you comfort and peace.

Dear Stellpflug family,
I went to school with Pete from 1st-12th grade. My parents were friends with Pete's parents as we attended the same church. I remember Pete as being one of the nicest guys I ever met. We were quite close in junior high. We were in a play together that I directed and he so nicely listened to my directions! I am so sorry for your loss. I grieve my old friend and pray for his family. I know Pete has reached the Kingdom but will be with us as we try to work with our own grief.
My sincerest sympathies,
Barb (Zabel) Klein
There is really nothing i can really say that can really explain what a great man pete was. Everything he did for anyone that needed help. All of the groups he was involved with. How he was there for his family. this list can go on and on! I will miss seeing his smiling face on my weekly trips to the bank. He was one of the best!! Please remember this and please lean on each other now and remember to ask for help when you need it!
Pat and Terry Herbers
Dear Tammy & Family:
It is with deep sorrow and regret to find out about the passing of your Husband and Father this week. For nearly 10 years, I had the opportunity to work with Peter through the Riverland Community College Farm Business Management Program; working with farm families around Eyota. He was always concerned about his farm families and their being productive and successful. I know it was the same regarding your family. He spoke often of family activities with all of you and especially with county 4-H work. I can not believe the Lord has taken Peter from all of us at such an early age. His bubbly personality will be sorely missed by those of us who had the privilege to know him. My thoughts and best wishes are with all of you! God bless all of you during this time of sorrow in your lives.
John Hobert, Farm Business Management Instructor: Retired, Cannon Falls, Minnesota

I'd like to let you know how much we admired Pete. If you looked up the definition of a man Pete was it and more. He cared deeply for his Family, Worked hard, Always had time for others and could bring a smile to any ones face. Pete gave so much to our community and touched many lives. Thank You Pete for being a wonderful man. You will be greatly missed
God Bless,
Todd, Sue, Kendra, Tyler & Seth Stettler
To the entire Stellpflug family,
I am so very sorry to hear of the sudden loss of Pete. I remember him as such a happy, friendly kid back in our 4-H days, and he had obviously become a man that was respected and well-loved. May God's love and healing grace flow abundantly over all of you during this difficult time.
Karen (Robb) Wheeler
I received a text from my son Tyrel Clark telling me of Pete's death while I was on vacation, many miles from Eyota. i thought about the help Pete gave to start the Farmers Market this year in Eyota--but this is only one small way that Pete championed Eyota. What a loss to our community! Even bigger is the loss that this means for Pete's family. I offer my condolances.
I keep thinking of how similar Pete's life was to Jimmy Stewart as George Bailey in "It's a Wonderful Life." A small town banker who was the "go to" guy for everyone. We as a community should all rise up and try to emulate him in his work for church, family, and community.
"Remember, no man is a failure who has friends."
Tammy and family;
My sympathy to your family. I always enjoyed Petes contributions when we worked together. He will be greatly missed.
I will keep your family in our prayers!
Minnie Ward
Dear Tammy & family,
There are no words to comfort you. There is no way to ease your pain. If it helps at all, this is what someone told us when we felt the kind of pain you feel: Don't tell God how big your storm is,
tell your storm how big your God is...

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Pete's family and friends
Dear Tammy, Tim, Matt, Anna, and Mikayla,
There are no words to ease your pain. As a community, we have lost one of our strongest lights. Whatever Pete did, he did it with 100%. There is not another person who could 'work a room' like Pete! But the difference between him and others is that he genuinely cared about the people he was talking to. He was sincere whether asking about the kids' school activities or when doing business with him. My girls have very fond memories of 'crazy Pete' from when he would sub for Tammy at those early morning Sunday School lessons. Who else would get up on a chair and dance with preschoolers at 8:00 on a Sunday morning?! Pete would. His love of life showed in everything he did.
Tammy, I know you will hear this time and time again, but please let us know what we can do. There is an entire community here to support you and the kids. It will be our honor to keep Pete's love of life going in Eyota.
Bridget and Brian
Tammy,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time. I hope some day we will be able to see your beautiful, smiling face around here again.
Love you,

To say it simply, he was the type of person we all wish we could be. We have shared some great times with Pete and have many cherished memories that we will hold in our hearts forever. He will be greatly missed. Our hearts go out to you and all the members of your family. Please know that we care about all of you and will do our best to help you through this tough time. We are very sorry to hear of your loss. Your husband and dad was a great man. I always loved the way he would talk to Edison at church and shake his hand. To the Stellpflug family:
I am so sorry for your loss. I talked to Pete about two weeks ago when he called City Hall and as usual he was interested in what was going on with my family and asked after my dad. He was one of the kindest people I have had the pleasure to know for many years. He was the kind of person that everyone liked and he is going to truly be missed. I know there are no words to take away your pain but know that many people are praying for your family and are grieving his loss. Dear Tammy and Family-Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you. God Bless.
Pete was truly a special person and had faith in everyone. I talked to him regularily. He respected others for who they were. I enjoyed our visits and he was always upbeat. I know he will be a great loss to the family and work. Always cherish your memories. The time we have is so precious. God bless Tammy and the children. My prayers are with you.
To the entire Stellplug family, I am so very sorry for your loss of Pete. He was always so kind to me in school and in 4-H. Pete always had a smile on his face and a kind word to say. I have some great memories of 4-H softball, the county fair and just being a kid that all involved Pete. He was one of a kind.
Love,
Katy Macken Cass

Tammy and kids,
I was devastated to hear about Pete. Though I never got the chance to know him, I heard from family members what a wonderful person he was. You will be in my thoughts and prayers in the days ahead and I hope that the strength of family will get you through. I am not sure if I will be able to make the services but Tammy I wanted you to know my heart goes out to you. I am sending a big hug and hope you know how much I feel for you. Take care of yourself.
Our hearts go out to Pete's family, you are in our thought and prayers. We miss you. Lonn, Martha, Miranda and Mara.
The city of Eyota lost a great compassionate human being in Pete Stellphlug. Pete was the "community go to guy" giving all to the cause. Pete will be greatly missed in Eyota.
To the Family of Pete,
I am so sorry to hear of this loss! I am praying for strength and comfort for each of you during this difficult time.
I have a quick story I want to tell to let you know how Pete touched my life and has continued to touch my life...
I was 15, it was Valentine's Day, and I had stopped at the bank in St. Charles after school to let my mom (Karen) know I was bummed because I didn't have a boyfriend on Valentine's Day. Pete overheard my disappointment and ran and bought me a couple of candy bars and brought them over to me and said "No one should be sad on Valentine's Day." Since that day, I have never been sad on Valentine's Day, since Pete told me that I shouldn't be. :) I'm sure this sounds just like the Pete that everyone knows and loves.
He is alive in the memories we have of him and in the impact he has left behind - he showed us how to be good human beings every day. I am so thankful that I got to see Pete a couple of times in the past year. He was exactly the same wonderful, friendly, smiley caring guy that brought me those candy bars 19 years ago.
My sincere condolences,
Keri Wiskow
