Pearl “Nanny” Funk

A private family burial for Pearl L. Funk will be at Grandview cemetery on Tuesday April 13, 2010, with Wendy Haack officiating. Pearl, 90 of Rochester, died Saturday April 10 of Lewy Body Dementia at Sunrise Cottages in Rochester. She was born March 30, 1920, to Ben and Anna Kappers, in Fillmore County, Minnesota. She married Loren Deyo and later divorced. She married Richard K. Funk in 1969 and he died in 1999. Mrs. Funk grew up in the Spring Valley, MN area and later moved to  the Rochester area and worked as a grocery store clerk, in bookeeping and as a waitress. She loved reading, TV, Sewing, her bird Tweety, and talking on the phone. Mrs. Funk also enjoyed her coffee neighbors Milly, Arlene, Peggy, and Joan. Survivors include two daughters, Pat (Norman) Elpert of Rochester MN. ; Audrey (Marvin) Yennie of Wabasha, MN. and twin sons, Rick (Kris) Deyo of Rochester, MN. ; Randy (Tonia) Deyo of Rochester, MN. ;  two step-children Rick & Pam also survive. She also has 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 9 great great grandchildren. Her brother George Kappers of Arizona, also survives. Mrs. Funk was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one sister, and twin brothers. Burial will be private with a celebration of life at a later date.
