Patricia “Patty” Anne Newman

Patricia “Patty” Newman, 59, of Pine Island, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family and friends on Thursday, December 6th after a tough fight against cancer.

She was born on March 8, 1959 in Minneapolis, MN to John and Patricia Holmes. She graduated from Pine Island High school in 1977. On May 21, 1983 she married Mark B. Newman and raised four children together.

Patty’s life was centered around her family and friends, most noticeably with her four grandsons. When she wasn’t spending time with them you could find her cheering on the Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Wild, or spending time out on the town with her friends. Patty loved to scrapbook, catch the latest movie in theaters, and chat with anyone. She had a love for music, especially “The King” Elvis Presley.

Patty is survived by her husband, Mark Newman of Pine Island; her children, Bethany Newman (Brad) of Pine Island, Matthew Newman of Rochester, Patricia Newman of Rochester, and Jackie Newman of Pine Island; her grandchildren, Brayden, Blake, Bennett, and Bryce Rehling of Pine Island; and her two sisters, Debra Holmes of Pine Island, and Diane (Scott) Lindahl of Pine Island.

Patty is preceded in death by her parents, John and Patricia Holmes.

Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 15, 2018 in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home in Rochester, MN with Pastor Dan Ashpole officiating. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the memorial service in the River Park Chapel.

Condolences

The family of Patricia “Patty” Anne Newman has received the following condolences.

To all of my family, I'm so deeply sorry for this loss.

Patty was too young with so much more to offer this life. I don't see my family often but I know the love they share. My heart breaks for all.

My dad, John, Patty's uncle and Godfather, (his very proud title!) had surgery last week so he will not be attending this service.

Again, from the deepest part of our hearts, we are so sorry for your loss.

I'm so thankful that Patty and I became friends so many decades ago.  She often invited me to family gatherings so I got to know a lot of her extended family too. What a lovely family. We have kids around the same age so we exchanged  parenting stories over the years. During some of the darkest days of my life, she was always there with a good listening ear, even if I called her at midnight.  Even though we didn't see each other real often, our faith in Christ was a commonality that bound us together forever. Three days before she passed away I had planned to visit her.  When I pulled into the driveway I looked at my phone and there was a message from her that she wasn't feeling well and I shouldn't come. I went into the house to see her anyway and as we visited, read scripture and prayed, she seemed to perk up.  I'm so grateful that I didn't get that message before I left my home because I wouldn't have gone to see her.  That turned out to be our last conversation.  Mark, Bethany, Matthew, Tricia, Jackie, Diane and Debbie we will continue to pray for you as you grieve the loss of your dear wife, mother and sister.  Comfort can be found in the assurance that she is most certainly in the presence of her Lord and Savior.  My love to you all. ?

One of our beloved “Blondies” has gone home to rest in God’s loving arms. She is not sick, or in pain anymore! I’m happy for her, but sad for us who will miss her! :(  Patty was strong of faith and set a wonderful example of having trust in the Lord in the face of adversity! I am thankful our life paths crossed. God bless and heal your hearts, Newman family! ??

Patty was one of the greatest people I've ever had the privilege of knowing! She will be missed immensely and thought of often! Praying for her family and friends during this difficult time!

I am so sorry for your loss. Patty dedicated her life to her family and friends, and she uplifted the hearts of everyone who met her. She is a caring, loyal, loving soul who will always be with those who knew her. My deepest condolences.

My heart hurts for all of you. Patty was loved by so many people and will forever be in our hearts.  Her legacy is in the kindness that she showed others and her children have that same kindness. Patty was ready to meet Jesus and be with her mom and dad.  She is an angel who will forever be watching over us.   I am blessed to have had you as such a great friend, Patty!   I loved our Tuesday night dinner and movie night and any other adventures we had.  I am so glad that you got to do your 1st pedicure with me and you fell in love with them.  I love you and will miss you my friend.

My heart is so very broken. I lost my dear friend and someone I truly  loved.  Patty, I’m so excited that you met Jesus and hugged your parents.  Graceland was so much fun with you but now you have met Elvis!  Truly you are in Heaven. I will see you every time I go to Hobby Lobby, Drive by La Fonda’s, and  remember all our great times together. I’ll see you soon sweet friend.

So sorry for your loss, I graduated high school and lived across the street at that time. She was always kind and gentle soul. Keep good memories close.~~Sam Murray

My thoughts and prayers are with all of the family. Life is definitely not fair. Patty was such a wonderful person and will be truly missed.

So very sorry for your loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
