Patricia “Pat” Techau

Patricia “Pat” Techau, 94, of Rochester, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, July 8, 2013, at Stewartville Care Center.  She lived at Gramercy Park Cooperative until her recent hospitalization.

She was born on March 3, 1919, in Rochester, MN, to Theodore and Clementine Steger.  As a young child she lived in Racine and High Forest before moving back to Rochester.  She graduated from Rochester High School and then Winona State Teachers College.  Pat taught at country schools in Byron and Pleasant Valley.  She also worked at The Mayo Clinic as a medical coder for several years.

Pat married Wayne Techau, Sr., on January 24, 1953 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Rochester.   They resided in Rochester where they raised their four children.  They were able to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary before Wayne passed away on February 25th of this year.

Pat was always known for her great memory.  She enjoyed sharing family and historical stories with her children and grandchildren.   Her grandchildren were very special to her.  She enjoyed sewing and was a creative greeting card maker.  Many friends and family received her intricate handmade cards up until the time of her illness.

Pat volunteered and participated in many civic organizations including the VFW Women’s Auxiliary, St. Maria Gorreti Rosary Group at St. Francis, and served as a Girl Scout leader.

She is survived by her four children:  one son, Wayne (Cathy) Techau, Jr., of Rochester; three daughters, Marleen (Jim) Zak, of Pine City, MN, Mary (Bert) Brinks, of North Mankato, MN, Margaret (Chuck) Buske, of Rochester; 11 grandchildren, Joe, Brian and Charles Zak; Jennifer and Eric Techau; Jason, Deanna and Andrew Brinks; Sarah, Katie (John) Keller, and Brandon Buske; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne E. Techau, Sr., her parents, and one brother, Vincent Steger.

A visitation will be from 5pm – 8pm, Thursday, July 11, 2013 in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the mass at the church on Friday, July 12, 2013.

A funeral Mass will be held at 1PM, Friday, July 12, 2013 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Rochester, with the Rev. Mark McNea officiating.  Burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or American Diabetes Association.

Condolences

The family of Patricia “Pat” Techau has received the following condolences.

To the Techau Family -

I was just thinking of Pat the other day.  Today I received a call from my Aunt Kathleen Crowe Erickson and she shared the sad news.  I am also sorry to hear of Wayne's passing in February.    You had a great set of parents.   I met them too late in life, but I always remember my Mom (Monica Crowe Severson) talking about her cousin Pat Steger.   I spent a nice day last fall hearing some of the stories while gathering some information for the family history.  What a cool lady and what a memory!  My Aunt Marie Crowe Wiese was with Kathleen and I and now I understand the Steger link.

My sincere condolences in losing both of your parents in such a short timeframe.  Remember all the happy times and know your folks are always watching over you.

With Sympathy -

Barb Severson

Dear Marleen,

Sorry for your loss. I know your Mom lead a good long life, but that you will still miss her very much. I hope your memories will help you and your family. Your Mom was a very beautiful woman - lucky genes!!!

My best,

Barb Scierka

To all of the Techau's,

My sincere condolences. Your Mom was such a wonderful woman and a great neighbor too. I have so many good memories of living next door to all of you. Pat had such a good heart and was always so kind to us. I'm sure there were times that wasn't always easy....we were  little stinkers.   My thoughts are with you.

Mary, Bert, & family,

So sorry to hear of the passing of your mom, Mary.  Cherish the memories you have of her, and remember that she is with your dad in heaven, and they are both at peace.

Many blessings,

Mary

Dear family members of Pat Techau,  We were so saddened to learn of Pat's death.  She has been our goiod neighbor since we moved into Gramercy 3 years ago.  We always were concerned when her paper would still be out side her door the next morning.  We so enjoyed a couple of trips we made with her...to Owatonna State School and to the Eagle's Nest in Red Wing.

We do hope that you have friends to support you through these intense days! We are traveling and will not be in Rochester at the time of her funeral.  So Sorry!  Take care of each other, your parents were very special people!   Sincerely with love and concern, Dorothy and Albert Nelson    Gramercy  #229

I work at the salon where Pat got her hair styled every Thursday. She was one fine lady, always a smile and a hello. I will miss her greatly. My condolences to you all... Kate from Sandy Anns Hairstyling
