Patricia Diane O’Neill Palmer

Patricia O’Connor O’Neill Palmer passed away peacefully on September 20, 2020. Granddaughter of Olmsted pioneer Christopher Spring, Edward and Josephine O’Neill. Daughter of Eugene and Vera O’Neill and wife of Norman E. Palmer.

Patricia was born on September 30, 1934 to Vera and Eugene O’Neill. She received her elementary education in Rochester Public Schools and San Diego School system in California and graduated from Lourdes High School in Rochester, MN. She received her teaching degree at Winona State University.

On July 5, 1958 Patricia married Norman Palmer. After her retirement from the Mayo Clinic she volunteered to read to the children at Riverside Elementary and Gage Elementary schools. Patricia was active in her church of St. Pius as a Sunday school teacher, confirmation leader, Great Books leader, Home Mother and Den Mother for the Boy Scouts. She also volunteered as a Brownie leader, leader for Girl Scouts and Eucharistic Minister at St. Mary’s hospital. She was an NRA marksman and co-owner for Pantry Plus catering company.

Patricia will be remembered for her incredible smile and laughter. She had a passion for reading, love of travel, adventure and unlimited compassion for others. Her love and tenderness touched our souls and her radiant smile, loyalty and strength of character will be remembered always.

“Don’t be afraid. Whatever comes, you can take it. If it hurts, it will make you bolder. If it’s troubling, it will make you smarter. If it’s good, let it make you happy.”

Patricia is survived by her husband of 62 years, Norman; children, Shaun Palmer, Susan Palmer-Ziolkowski (Allen Ziolkowski), Seamus O’Neill-Palmer, Jeanne Palmer-Ahmann (Greg Ahmann); grandchildren, Christopher (Ellie) Ziolkowski, Andrew Ziolkowski, Jonathan Ahmann, Joseph Ahmann, Ellen Palmer, Jay Palmer, Calvin Palmer, Devin Palmer and Collin Palmer; and three great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Vera and Eugene O’Neill.
