Owar Okugn Opiew

Owar Okugn Opiew, 16, went to be with the Lord February 7, 2021, in Spokane Valley, Washington. Owar left his family members and friends behind with heavy hearts.

Owar was born September 5, 2004, in Mankato, Minnesota. Owar and his family moved to Spokane, Washington eight years ago. He has now been brought home to Minnesota where he will be put to rest.

Owar was tragically taken too young in life. His life’s aspiration was to be a dentist and to play professional basketball.

Owar will be greatly missed by his family, friends, school coaches, peers, faculty and teachers. Owar attended Mead High School and was beloved by all. He treated everyone with the same love and respect. He was funny, caring, always had a smile on his face and had something positive to say in every situation.

Owar was very active in high school sports. He played football and basketball, and he competed in track and field. He also loved to dance. His favorite food came from Panda Express and Burger King.

Owar was known to have a great sense of humor, uplifting his family and friends with his joyful personality. He was extremely compassionate – being willing to give the shirt off of his back to others. Owar was very affectionate toward his parents, and he always thought of others before himself. His parents humorously remember last Thanksgiving where his joy and generosity led him to invite his friends over for Thanksgiving dinner. Before his family knew it, Owar and his friends had eaten the entire turkey and had moved on to another friend’s house for dessert!

Thank you, Owar, for all of the happy memories and laughs you have given us. You will be greatly missed and loved forever.

Owar is survived by his loving father, Okugn Opiew Okom; his loving mother, TaTa Omot Oguta; and his seven siblings, Medi, Oromrow, Johkow, Onyongo, Gene, Eve, and Hope Opiew.

The visitation for Owar will be held 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 20, 2021 in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Rochester.
