Norman Ralph Pearson
Norman R. Pearson, 95, of Rochester, passed away on Thursday, June 14, 2018 of natural causes at The Homestead of Rochester.
He was born on October 24, 1922 in Simpson MN and was one of two children by parents Harold and Esther Pearson. On October 1, 1946 Norm married Hazel Himle and they enjoyed 65 years together with their close family and long-time friends.
Norm joined the Navy in 1942 and served in World War II stationed in the South Pacific. After returning home he worked at Gopher Aviation for many years where his love of airplanes and flying began. He later worked for Larson/Olson.
Surviving Norm are his children, Marcia Holley of Cedar Rapids Iowa, Gary Pearson of Maple Grove Minnesota, and Brenda Townsend of Phoenix Arizona; seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Norm was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Shirley and his wife, Hazel.
Norm was outgoing and enjoyed spending time with friends and family. Whether playing cards or going to the family cabin, a tradition that went on for over 50 years, he loved the time spent with them. He was an avid snowmobiler and continued to ride until his late 80’s. His love of flying continued into his 80’s as well. He was a member of the QB’s (Quiet Birdmen). In 2008 he was able to partake in the Honor Flight to Washington, DC to honor the service of World War II veterans. He was a long-time member of Zumbro Lutheran Church.
Visitation will be held at Zumbro Lutheran Church on Tuesday, June 19th from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm, with the Celebration of Life at 2:30 pm with reception to follow. Burial will be at West St. Olaf Church following the reception. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Seasons Hospice, 1696 Greenview Dr SW, Rochester, Minnesota 55902.
