Norma J. Krantz

Norma J. Krantz, age 79 of Rochester, passed away on September 16, 2018 at Saint Marys Hospital.

Norma was born on February 23, 1939 in Rochester to Ralph and Marion Deedrick. She attended elementary school in Dover, MN and graduated from St. Charles High School in 1957. She then completed a two-year nursing program at the Methodist-Kahler School of Nursing. She became a Registered Nurse, and taught nursing during this time. In the 1980’s she obtained her Bachelor of Nursing from the University of Minnesota, and ultimately her Master’s in nursing. She became a member of the teaching staff at Winona State University, where she taught for their nursing program. She married Russell Blankenfeld in 1961, and the couple later divorced in 1988. Together they had four children. She then married her high school sweetheart, Jerry Krantz in 2008. Throughout the years, Norma took care of many interesting personalities at the hospital, including Prince Saud (King of Saudi Arabia), NFL’s Bart Starr, Ernest Hemingway, and many others. She was proud to have been recruited by Prince Saud to teach a nursing program in Saudi Arabia for over two years. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry of Rochester; her children, Reid (Yehudit) Blankenfeld of Arad, Israel, Jim (Pam) Blankenfeld of Altoona, IA, Sarah Weiss of Rochester, Eric Blankenfeld of Neenah, WI; and six grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents.

The Funeral Mass for Norma will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 21, 2018 at Resurrection Catholic Church in Rochester. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 20, 2018 in the Resurrection Catholic Church gathering space with a Rosary service starting at 7:00 p.m. A second visitation will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Friday at the church.

Condolences

The family of Norma J. Krantz has received the following condolences.

I'm very sorry for your loss, Jerry. My conto the rest of the family.

Sympathies to Norma's family. I knew Norma when I was teaching at Luther College (in Rochester) and our paths crossed while having students in clinicals. I was also on various nursing meetings and committees with her. She always had futuristic comments in those meetings.

To Norma's family, I am so sorry to hear of your loss in the death of Norma.  I worked with Norma at Winona State in the nursing department and loved how collaborative she was.  I loved working with her in group projects and know that the students loved her education style.  She has been missed by many of us faculty since she retired and I know that she will be missed by you.  Take care of each other in this time as I know she would wish for you also.
