Nicholas Zachary Borth

Nicholas Zachary Borth, 20, of Stewartville (originally from Rochester) lost his life on August 27, 2016 to a canoeing accident.

Nicholas was born July 9, 1996 in Rochester, MN.  He spent most of his days there attending and graduating from John Marshall in 2014.

His passion for life was indescribable. His first passion was wrestling in which he excelled at and led him to the opportunity to go to State as a 10th grader. His second passion was baseball; both as a player and a dedicated RYBA umpire starting at the age of 14 and continuing through 2016. He also enjoyed football, soccer, skateboarding and weightlifting.

Nicholas’ greatest love and pastime was spending every minute with family or friends and fishing.

He is survived by his parents, Patrick and Kristine; two brothers, Matthew Borth (Breanna Bruce), and Joshua Borth; one sister Abigail Borth; two nephews; one niece; paternal grandparents Leonard and Lucille Borth; and several uncles, aunts and cousins.

He is preceded in death by maternal grandparents Don and Marcella Simning and two aunts and one uncle.

The Funeral Mass for Nicholas will be held at 10:00AM on Saturday, September 3, 2016 at St. Francis Catholic Church with the Rev. Msgr. Thomas Cook officiating.  Visitation will be held Friday, September 2, 2016 at Macken Funeral Home River Park Chapel from 4:00 to 7:00PM and for one hour prior to the Mass on Saturday at the church.  Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Rochester.

I was so saddened to read of the loss of such a young man.  The death a loved one is always hard, but especially when they still have so much life and love to share with the world.  May your family find comfort in loving memories, as well as from the Holy Scriptures where "The God of all comfort" promises to reunite us with our loved ones under much better circumstances. (2 Corinthians 1:3,4 and John 5: 28, 29)

Please accept my sincere sympathy .... respectfully submitted.

Pat and Kris and family,

Steve and I are heartbroken about the news of your son, Nick.  Your family was so generous when our son was born in 1997, and you gave us so many baby boy things. It's been a privilege to know you and your growing family.  Again we are so sorry for your loss.

To the family of Nicholas,

I was deeply saddened to hear the news of your sons passing.  Although I did not know him, I lost my 15 year old son exactly 2 months ago today.  I know there are no words that can help, and the pain and numbness that you may be feeling is so real.  Just know that it does slowly get a little easier to cope with each day.  Again, I am so sorry that he was lost. Please, reach out if you ever want to talk, or vent, or anything at all

I wish to express my most sincere condolences to Nick's family.  I am a retired teacher and substitute teacher at John Marshall.  I have know him since ninth grade and have watched him grow up to be fine, young man.  Nick would always greet me in the hallway and stop to chat in some of the classes in which I subbed for.  He was always most polite and friendly.  We would discuss his sports activities and his interests.  Although I have seen many students over the course of eleven years of substitute teaching, I must say that Nick was one of my favorite students .  You can be proud of raising such a wonderful person.  My prayers and best wishes go out to all of Nick's family at this time of great sorrow.

God bless you all,

Thomas Sundry

I'm so sorry for the passing of Nick. I had him as a ninth grader in my English class. I loved our conversations, and loved that smile. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

To Nick's Family and Friends-

On behalf of the Rochester Youth Baseball Association, I am so very sorry for your loss. I cannot say enough about how much Nick meant to RYBA and the community he served as an Umpire. He was the most dedicated and hardest working individual on the staff, and his passion for the job was inspiring. His presence will truly be missed, though never forgotten on the ball field.

Sincerely-

Mike Gozola Jr. RYBA

Abby and family,
