Neva May Hain

Neva May Hain 98, of Rochester passed away peacefully of natural causes on Wednesday Feb 1st 2023, with her family at her side. Neva was born to Granville and Avis Street on October 2, 1924, at the family farm in Winneshek County Iowa. There she spent her childhood, attending school and working alongside her 5 siblings on  the farm. She enjoyed sharing stories of farm life durning the depression including her least favorite job of cleaning the separator. She attended William Penn College and after went to the Kahler School of Nursing where she achieved  her RN degree. On April 5th, 1950 she united into marriage with Robert (Bob) Hain at the  Hesper Friends Church in Hesper Iowa. After marriage they resided in Rochester MN where  Neva gave up her Nursing Career to raise her 4 children. By all accounts she was a loving, kind  and generous mom. And the same as a grandmother, to her 11 grandchildren and 26 great  grandchildren.

Neva enjoyed sewing, knitting (especially her famous grandma slippers), reading, word search  puzzles and going on road trips and vacations with Bob including 3 times to Hawaii. She liked  to go camping and fishing which they did quite often with one or more of their children.

Neva is survived by her four children, Mike (Sharon Bretto) Hain of Kasson, Linda (Steve)  Gilbertson, Tom (Margaret) Hain, and Rob (Darla) Hain, her sister Karen Tracy all of Rochester.  Her 11 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was  proceeded in death by her husband, 2 brothers, 2 sisters and her parents.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, February 9, 2023 in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 8, 2023 from 4:00-7:00 pm at Macken Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens at a later date.

Sorry to hear of your mom's passing.   Bob and her always waved when the they drove by.....

I know I am Neva’s family but I wanted to share some memories I have of her. Grandma Hain- I have a lot of memories with you. When my sister Kristi and I were little we would spend the night at your house. Not because my parents needed a sitter (maybe sometimes) but mainly because we wanted to. Every time we went to grandma’s house we would ask for ice cream cones and she would never say no. She used to walk us to Cub foods in to get treats then let us play at Slaterly park. When we got back to her house she would play whatever game we wanted. At bedtime she would make us a snack and read us books.  I can still hear her voice read them to me.  Fast forward to when I was an adult-she agreed to be a part of my college nursing assignment to asses an elderly person- she was so patient to answer all my annoying questions and let me check her heart, lungs and pulses. She also taught me to knit the famous grandma slippers (I learned they were a lot of work)! My Grandma was the most kind and loving person. She will be greatly missed by us on earth and I guarantee the ones in heaven are happy to have her home ♥️ I look forward to the day I get to see you again grandma Hain. Love you so much! Karri
