Nathan Anderson Holtegaard

Nathan Anderson Holtegaard, 36, tragically passed away following an accident on the family farm on September 23, 2020.

Nathan was born on January 25, 1984 in Rochester to Roger and Melinda (Anderson) Holtegaard. Growing up, he excelled in Photography and Animal Science in 4-H. He also enjoyed playing hockey, wrestling, and woodworking. He graduated from Century High School in 2002. He then attended North Dakota State University, obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Natural Resource Management. After college, he worked for Prairie Restoration in Princeton, MN before returning home to become a partner in Blue Horizons Dairy Farm as a third-generation family farmer. On December 31, 2010 he married Katie Benson at Pax Christi Catholic Church in Rochester, during a New Years Eve snowstorm. Together they have three daughters. Nathan was proud to have hosted Breakfast on the Farm in 2006 and 2019. He was known as a hard worker with a witty sense of humor and loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed vegetable gardening, ice fishing, and sharing his passion of farming with his daughters.

He is survived by his wife Katie of Rochester, his daughters Elizabeth, Nora, and Alice, his parents Roger and Melinda of Rochester, his sisters Courtney (Paul) Stellpflug of Rochester, Portia (Zach) Seckerson of Chatfield, MN, Annabelle (Zach) Charette of Rochester, and Marjorie (Brandon) Hofer of Nisland, SD.

Katie and family.  So heartbroken for this news. I am so sorry and am praying for you and your beautiful daughters and the whole family.

Our deepest sympathy to the Holtegaard family.  We are so sorry for your loss and are keeping you in our thoughts and prayers.
With love,

Julie, Mike and Claire Gibson

My sincere sympathy to the Holtegard family for their loss. As a field representative with Minnesota Farmers Union I followed the dairy operation for many years and was proud to have them as members. I was also able to be a part of last year’s Breakfast on the Farm and appreciate the willingness to showcase their farm and promote dairy. May your memories help ease your grief.

Katie, I have never met you. Lucille Kuhl was in the birthing ward when roger was born (my mother in law) Lucy gave birth to her oldest son Larry that same day. To hear (as a fellow farmer) what happened is so sad. I can’t express how I feel for you. If you need anything at all don’t hesitate to contact the Kuhl family. Lots of love ❤️

To the Holtegaard family -

There are no words to adequately express how sad and how sorry we are that this tragedy has happened to your wonderful family.  We are praying for God to give you strength during this terrible time and eventually the peace that only He can give.  We are thinking of each of you and sending love from Ohio.  xoxo

My heart broke when I heard the sad news. Katie- you a strong lady- hold those girls close. You and your entire family are in my thoughts and prayers!

Kara

I am having great difficulty even finding words....This news absolutely broken my heart. Nate was such a hard worker, kind soul, and gentle heart. My deepest condolences to Kate, his beautiful little girls, and his family. Rest in Peace Nate.

Katie I am so sorry to hear about Nathan!  Hugs and prayers to you and the girls!

I have had the opportunity to work with Nathan and the family for the past several years. I have never met a nicer family and to find this out today was heartbreaking. I don’t have words to express how terrible I feel for this wonderful family. We just need to put this in the hands of the Lord to help us get through this. You will be deeply missed Nathan

Nate was a dear friend to me at Century and into our college years. We loved to crack jokes and make each other laugh. With Nate’s help, I made the same bed as he in senior year wood shop class. I have not spoken with Nate (Holty) in so long I’m very sad to hear this news. I occasionally travel from my home on the east coast to visit my family in Rochester, and had intended to get his number from Adam Jensen to plan a visit to the farm to show my 3 year old son the animals and catch up. I’m truly sorry for the family, and Nate’s friends of this loss of a great man. I pray you find comfort in the many memories of the good times together.

With deepest sympathy,

Shaun Servais
