Nancy E. “Mavis” Trinkes

Nancy Elizabeth Trinkes, 69, of Rochester, MN passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at Methodist Hospital of complications related to lung disease.

Nancy was born May 20, 1952 in LaCrosse, WI to Alfred and Elizabeth (Motylinski) Trinkes. She graduated from Central High School in 1970. She went on to graduate from St. Mary’s School of Nursing in 1972 with her LPN, and later went on to graduate from RCTC with her RN in 1996. On October 23, 1992, she married Stewart Wolk at St. John the Evangelist Church in Rochester, MN.

A nurse at the Mayo Clinic for 49 years, Nancy dedicated her life of service to taking care of not just her patients and their families, but to every single person she met. A life-long learner, Nancy loved to meet new people and was genuinely interested in anything and everything they had to teach her. She never forgot a name or a face, and that says something seeing as how you can’t go anywhere around Rochester without running into someone she knew.

Among other things she loved most were spending time with her family, lunches with life-long friends, planning parties, cheering for the Green Bay Packers, a clean house, and a not quite so cold beer.

She will be most remembered and missed for the tenacity with which she approached each day, her unwavering faith in God and all His children, the compassion with which she supported and cared for others, her voice and laughter that always carried above the rest, that she always chose to “be festive” and rise to any occasion, how fiercely she loved and protected her family, and for the fight within she never lost.

She is survived by her loving husband, Stewart A. Wolk of Rochester, MN; her daughter, Elizabeth (Amanda) Wolk of Indianapolis, IN; her three sisters, Linda (Ronald) Kaiser of LaCrosse, WI, Mary (Allen) Steenberg of LaCrosse, WI, and Barbara (David) Hanson of Holmen WI, as well as many nieces and nephews she loved as her own. She was preceded in death by her parents, her mother and father-in-law, a brother-in-law, three sisters-in-law, and a great nephew.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00AM Saturday, March 5, 2022 in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home with Fr. Tom Loomis officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00PM to 7:00PM on Friday, March 4, 2022 in the River Park Chapel. Burial will be at a later date in the Catholic Cemetery in LaCrosse, WI.

Please send Memorials to the Poverello Fund at the Mayo Clinic.

The family of Nancy E. “Mavis” Trinkes has received the following condolences.

Dear Stew and Lizzie,

Nancy was an includer! She made everyone feel involved and important. I worked with her for only brief times but she was so fun and spirited. She was also so genuine. I am so sorry for your loss. Sincerely, Colleen Wente

Stewart Lizzy, Linda, Mary and Barb,

My heart breaks for you and your families. Nancy was an amazing person who welcomed everyone one she met. I always enjoyed Motylinski family events with you all. Her wonderful sense of humor helped make the world a little brighter.

I will keep you all in my prayers as you celebrate Nancy’s life.

Lyne Motylinski

Stewart and Lizzy,

Our heartfelt sympathy to you all.  What a beautifully written Obituary and all described her to a tee!!  My greatest memories are with her at Lizzy's softball games and how prepared she was with her cooler full of cold, wet towels to keep the girls cool.  Always thinking of others and always loved being around her!!  May God welcome her with open arms!  Love to you all

I worked with Nancy a number of times when I had patients up on Francis 7 Suites. I was even lucky enough to have one or two not-so-cold beers with her at Saints on 2nd. Through all our conversations it was obvious she was passionate about her work and life as a nurse, wife, and mother. She was one of the BEST, going out of her way to make sure everyone else was taken care of. She will truly be missed.

I was deeply saddened to hear of Nancy's passing.  I had the privilege of working with her at Mayo Clinic and she took care of many of our benefactors on Francis 7.  Her patients trusted her and she always went above and beyond to take care of them.  What a loss to all who knew her, and my heartfelt sympathy to Stewart and Elizabeth.  Barbara Flasch, Rochester, MN

A beautiful lady, both inside and out.  I have so many cherished memories of growing up right next door to Nancy.  She went on to dedicate her life to the nursing career, and did an exemplary job.  So very many family and friends will miss this beautiful face.  Nancy, I'm sure you have already connected up with our sister, Dawn, in heaven.  We will miss you so much.

May all the treasured memories comfort and console her family and extended family who mourn her passing.  She is Home at last.  Blessings and God's love to you all.

I am out of town on an extended winter get-away to places warmer than Wisconsin, so I cannot be at the services.  My heart will be with you all.

Sandy

Nancy was such a sincere, warm and friendly person. She will be missed.

Dear Stewart, Lizzy, Linda, Mary and Barb,  my heart goes out to you with Nancy's passing.  She was one of a kind!!!  I have appreciated her friendship over the years, along with her joy in life, how our conversations challenged my thinking, her interest in learning throughout her life, I've admired her high-class taste as a shopper, and will never forget the "all-nighters" in high school.  I wish I could be there to celebrate her amazing life and all the people she touched.  My sincere condolences.  Kathy (Black) Boyle

Nancy, Trink, Mavis Miller, Mave. Daughter, sister, wife, mother, un-failing friend.

By any name she was a gift to all of us.

Maya Angelou described her perfectly: "My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style."

For those of us who were fortunate enough to receive the gift of her friendship, her life-force will be missed beyond words.

Love to Stewart, Lizzie and all of Mave's family.

I am so sorry to hear of Nancy’s passing. I worked with her many times at St Marys Hospital. When I heard that Nancy was being floated to our unit, I was always so relieved. She was a very knowledgeable, skilled and caring nurse. Nancy had a lot of energy and she shared it with everyone around her. My sympathy to her family.

Prayers to Nancy’s family during this difficult time. I worked with Nancy when she was an LPN and after she got her Rn. She was one of the best nurses I have ever worked with. Kind and caring and very knowledgeable. An angel now and an angel while she was here on earth. RIP

We are so very sorry for your loss. We hope you can go forth with life while holding her close to your heart. She will forever be in our memories. Take care. Much love. -Morgan family

Nancy was a very caring person. To begin with, Nancy was saving my life. Later on Nancy supported me any possible way, she always wanted to make sure I'm OK, especially after complex surgeries. She was incredibly generous and passionate, very observant and ready to help immediately. Nancy tried so hard to make sure my family and I are safe, protected and comfortable. Nancy always came to the rescue, the tear is rolling down my face, we'll miss you Nancy, you were a very special friend.

So sorry to hear of Nancy's death.  I worked with her for many years as she helped many of our benefactors during their hospitalizations.  She understood them and went out of her way to help make their days better (and mine in the process). She will be missed by so many.  You're in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.  Tarrie

I worked with her - I brought her many high profile patients. She was always kind of ‘cranky’ - but was really one of the nicest and most caring nurse/person a patient could ever be lucky enough to have! I will miss her.

Very sorry to hear of "Mavis'" passing. Many years and lots of good memories. RIP

Stew & Lizzie,

So sad to hear of Nancy's passing.  What a shock and such a great loss.  Nancy was always so thoughtful of others, generous to all and so much fun to be around.  We have so many fond memories of softball games where Nancy always kept the party going.  Our deepest condolences to you both.  Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers.
