Mons “David” Kaehler

Mons “David” Kaehler, age 79, of Rochester, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his very loving family on Sunday, April 15, 2018.

David was born on December 23, 1938 in Albert Lea, MN to Glenn and Millie Kaehler. He attended Bricelyn Grade School and graduated from Bricelyn High School in 1957. David then attended Luther College and the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, graduating with a Bachelor of Science, a Master’s in Education, and achieving a Specialist’s Degree in Mathematics. He retired after over 35 years in Math Education in Rochester at Kellogg Middle School (ISD 535). On June 17, 1961, he married the love of his life, Janice Kay Fulfs, in Albert Lea, MN. Together, they raised six children. David touched the lives of thousands of students over the years at Kellogg along with many coworkers. He continued to meet regularly with his past colleagues from Kellogg for coffee for many years after retirement. Many remember Dave for his sense of humor and quick one-liners. He and his wife spent many years woodworking, traveling, and spending quality time with his family. He was a gentle, kind-hearted soul with a strong faith in Christ, who will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his wife of over 56 years, Janice of Rochester; his children, Kimberly (John) Schmidt of Rochester, Mark (Connie) Kaehler of Kasson, Kristen (Troy) Amdahl of Chandler, AZ, Kathi Kaehler of Rochester, and Matthew Kaehler (Nikole Leth) of Kasson; grandchildren, Michael (Jessie) Schmidt, Derek Schmidt, Heather Kaehler, Jacob Kaehler (Sarah Gartner), Jordan (Kayla) Kaehler, Angela (Aurelio) Regino, Amy Jungbauer, Alicia (Justin) Zelinske, Maxwell (Anna) Amdahl, Joelle Amdahl, Bennett Amdahl, Alea Amdahl, Trystin Kaehler, and Tad Kaehler; great-grandchildren, Dillanjer Johnson, Michael Kaehler, Emery Schmidt, Madason, Arianna, Jackson, Paytin, Cruz, Hunter, Carter, Ava, Ayden, and Azlynn; his sister, Judy Mennsen of Albert Lea, MN; his brother, Daniel Kaehler of Fairmont, MN; two brothers-in-law, James Fulfs of Portland, OR and Jerry (Nancy) Fulfs of Albert Lea; and a special Mongolian son, Bayassa (Enkule, and their child, Oyungoo).

He is preceded in death by his son, Michael; and his parents.

The Memorial Service for Dave will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Rochester with Pastor Norm Wahl Officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 20, 2018 in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home along with one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial of Dave’s ashes will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Memorials are preferred to Bethel Lutheran Church of Rochester.

Condolences

The family of Mons “David” Kaehler has received the following condolences.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family. I remember Mr. Kaehlers infectious laugh and welcoming smile when I visited as a kid. I hope you can find peace during this time.

Wade

To the entire Kaehler family, very sorry for your loss. Was glad I had the opportunity to meet Dave, truly a great guy and a class act. Best Wishes, Casey Jones

I was blessed to know Dave, not only as my math teacher at Kellogg, but also with his family during our years of 4-H.  His sense of humor and patience was what made him such an effective teacher and adviser.   I remember fondly our quarterly BEEP scores and his "Little Bag of Pluses".   I feel very honored to have known such a fine example of what a teacher can be and to have had the opportunity to learn from him.

Kaehler family, please know that you are in our hearts and prayers.

The Strain Family

As a sibling of Kathy Jahnke Rosedahl, I remember hearing Dave’s name all my life. Both he & Jan always made me feel special when I saw them at Bricelyn events.

Our deepest sympathy to the Kaehler family.  Having known Dave all my life, I remember his antique car and his great personality.  He and Jan were exceptional, welcoming people, so kind and gracious.  Dave and Jan raised a great family and were such good friends, traveling companions of my sister and brother in law, Kathy and Bob Rosedahl.  He was such a great family guy, church member and all around good person.  Blessed be his memory and all the great memories you have of your husband & father.

We extend our deepest sympathy to Daves’ wonderful family! We remember what a lovely couple Jan and Dave were and we were so impressed with their many talents. We still treasure some of the Christmas crafts they made. Special warm thoughts to Kathy and Kim. We know your Dad was so proud of all of his children. We feel fortunate that our paths crossed. God’s Blessings to you all.

My prayers go to all the people in David’s family.

May you always remember his love and support for you.

Blessings & peace to you, dear Jan, and to your family from Dave’s cousin Annie.  All the memories I have of you over the years are of happiness and love.  May your memories give you solace at this time of grieving as well as cause for celebrating the life you shared together for over 50 years.  Hugs to you & yours.

Our heartfelt sympathy and prayers for the loss of Dave are extended to all of his loved ones. Even though his loss leaves a void which can never be filled it is eased with the knowledge that he is now at peace with his Savior. May the many joyful memories carry you through this difficult time.

So sorry for your loss he obviously was a wonderful individual and it shows in the one child that I have dealt with for quite some time he must’ve been full of life very forgiving individual and no temper whatsoever I hope you find some comfort in knowing that he can rest now
