Mona T. Freytag

Mona Theresa Mirabelli Freytag passed away at Madonna Towers in Rochester on Thursday, March 1, 2012.

Mona was born in Italy on April 18, 1923 and came to the United States as a baby with her mother and sister after her father’s death. She was raised in New York City, married William Freytag, became a citizen, and moved with her family to Rochester in 1958. She was a homemaker, held various jobs, was a life-long St. Francis of Assisi Church member, volunteered for many causes and organizations, was a great cook, and enjoyed friends and family.

She is survived by four children, Paula (Ron) Kath of Rochester, Carla (Ron) Erickson of Apple Valley, MN, William (Sue) of Rochester, Richard (Mary) of Rochester, thirteen grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents Frank and Josephine, her husband William in 1961, an infant sister, a sister Delores Mirabelli, and her oldest daughter, Mona Freytag Messerschmidt.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30AM on Monday, March 5, 2012 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with Rev. Harry Jewison officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church.

All memorials in Mona’s memory are preferred to St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life, The Red Cross, and The Salvation Army.

The Freytag family would like to thank Madonna Towers along with the staff and clergy for their excellent attention to Mona.

I wish to express my sympathy to those of you who  knew me at Hawthorne Elementary School ( Carla, Bill, and Richard) as well as other family members.  I remember your mother as well.  She was a good school supporter.  I have found that remembering the good times and talking about them, helps ease the sorrow. My sympatahy to each of you.
