Michael Robert Radio, 98 of Rochester, passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2020 at Samaritan Bethany.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio on October 1, 1921, Mike was an avid athlete enjoying all sports and excelled in baseball, golf, and ping-pong To everyone in the family and those who knew him well he was known as the “World’s Greatest Athlete” because he never missed a chance to tell that to anyone who would listen.
Mike was married to Beverly Jones, his “beautiful, blonde, blue-eyed, Irish lassie” on June 22, 1946 upon his return from serving his country in the Pacific theater during World War II. They were married for 71 years until Bev’s death on May 6, 2018. They enjoyed dancing together to Big Band music until they were no longer able to hear the music or stand for any extended period of time. They always became the center of attention on the dance floor at family weddings and other celebrations. Mike and Bev were also partners in their home-based craft business for many years after Mike’s retirement from IBM in 1985. Mike’s woodworking included trays, bowls, picture frames, cabinets and many other wooden items.
They raised five children and dedicated themselves to supporting their children in everything they chose to do growing up and as adults.
Mike was a man of deep faith and actively supported St. Pius X Catholic Church for many years as a Lector, Eucharistic Minister, Council Member, and generous contributor.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents Anthony and Antoinette Radio and by his sister Betty Lasco. He and Bev are survived by their five children: Suzanne (David) Finkelstein, Bill (Deb) Radio, Peggy Radio, Nancy (Bernie) Matzek and Kathy (Donnie) Gibson. They are also survived by eleven grandchildren and many more great-grandchildren.
The Funeral Mass for Michael will be privately held in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery Rochester.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Mayo Clinic Department of Research for Macular Degeneration or for Dementia and Alzheimer’s research.

Condolences
The family of Michael Robert Radio has received the following condolences.
Dear Mike Radio's Family,
We were so sorry to read about Mike's passing. Mike was such a great individual, so compassionate, humble, and understanding of all who came into touch with him. I worked for Mike at IBM for many years and I was so privilege to work for a person like Mike. He always listened to our concerns and had much wisdom and experience to help us see through them. I had the greatest admiration for Mike as a manager and as a person. He set a great example for me. I always admired his spiritual life and how he attended mass every morning prior to coming to work. He truly lived his faith! We will miss a wonderful person like Mike and we pray that God will fill all his family with peace and comfort as you grieve his passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with you!
Our love,
Reuben & Verda Tschritter
Mike was the best manger a person could ever have, working for him several years taught me to remember good people always win. He was a winner in my book. May you rip Mike I’ll always remember the times we had together. Dale
My condolences on the loss of your father & husband.
As a student of Miss Suzanne Radio's class at St. Pius a few lifetimes ago, I met Mr. Radio. Miss Radio invited our class to your/her home in NW Rochester .. a wonderful treat for all of us. I remember being greeted by her Dad, and how remarkable it seemed that a person's parents would welcome so many of us.. I also recall that you had a great back yard.
"Miss Radio" you were one of my most favorite teachers. I am grateful for your kindness as a teacher, and the kindness of your parents' hospitality.
I am very sorry for your loss....
Dear Radio Family. My deepest condolences to each of you on the passing of my long time friend Mike. I have many fond memories of our time together, especially on the golf course. When it came to golf, he was the "World's Greatest Athlete". Even with his macular degeneration he always found a way to win. It was an honor to have him as a friend.
May God's peace and comfort be with you.
Sincerely...Laurie Bliese
Suzie, Bill, Peggy, Nancy, and Kathy

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.”
Dear Kathy and family,
Condolences to you and all of your family. Such longevity. It's hard to say goodbye especially your last parent. You have a close knit family to help provide support. Sending a virtual hug.

To Mike Radeo's family,
This is Cyndy Winslow, I heard Mike was sent home to join his beloved Bev.?
My dearest condolences to all in the family ?
Your Mom and Dad were probably the NEATEST couple I have ever met, other than to my own mother and father. I was "blessed" to caregive for them, experiencing the true love they showed eachother everyday. I will cherish the many memory of Mike and Bev Radio, your moms "light up the room SMILE" and your dads "warm hand shake". ??
I will never ever forget your Mom and Dad, tears of joy in there reunion!!
I know some TIME has passed us by, though thank you for always making me feel like family. I hope for ALL the rest of you in our "changing world", you ALL are doing well, take good care please!!?
Again my condolences, and love, Cyndy Winslow
Dear Suzanne and other children of Michael Radio, My thoughts and prayers go out to you on the passing of your father Michael Radio. As Suzanne and I grew up, I got to know both Michael and Beverly. I am sorry I cannot see Suzanne to share my in person thoughts - but I wish for you peace and health. Barb Virnig
I so enjoyed Mike when he would come to the Communion Service we held at Samaritan Bethany each week. One day we talked about the Italian Food his mother made when he was a kid. It brought him back such delicious memories, like he could taste it as if it were yesterday. He always was so nice. God bless his children, and my condolences to you all. He was a wonderful man.

Deacon Bill & Family:
May the Rosen Lord Jesus full your hearts and minds with peace and joyfully receive your father, Michael, into his arms of divine mercy and love. All you angels and saints rush out to greet him. Allleluia!

I always liked seeing Mike when I took Communion to Homestead. He was always “reasonable” when asked how he was. He obviously loved Bev so much. He knew my dad and when my dad died we gave him that crazy talking watch. He was always so kind and thoughtful when approached. It was my pleasure to have known him. So sorry for you loss.
In these unusual times, it is unfortunate that we cannot celebrate a life beautifully lived in a group setting, but I would like to offer my thoughts and prayers of comfort and peace to the entire Radio family. Bill, I was always so fond of your dad. He was such a kind and gentle soul.
Dear Sue, Peggy, Nancy, Kathy, and Bill,
Although I never met your dad, I feel like I knew him just a little bit from all the great stories about him and your mom that Sue and Peggy told me. I know those stories will keep him close to all of you for many years to come.
Please know that I am thinking of you all.
Fondly,
Sally

I am so sorry to hear of your father's passing Nancy. Wishing you and your family comfort during this time.
I'm so glad I had the pleasure of getting to know "Mr. Reasonable" during my years at The Homestead. He and my Dad sat shoulder to shoulder for many coffee clatches. Loved his sense of humor. The thought of him brings a smile to my face. He will be so missed. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this tough time.
Dear Nancy and Family,
I am so very sorry to hear of your father's passing. He sounded like a wonderful man! Take comfort in the fact that he is now reunited with the Lord and his beautiful Irish lassie! Hold all of your memories close. Thoughts, prayers, and hugs go out to you at this time. Shari Ellingsen
